DOWN WITH BORING FOOD! Tomorrow our Hackett HYPE leaders are premiering their flavor station in the school cafe during lunch time! They will have more than 11 not-so-secret herbs and spices that children can use to spice up their lunch! There will be rosemary, dill, black pepper, garlic, cinnamon, Italian herb blends, plus more salt-free blends that children can sample with their hot lunch and expand their horizons! Here are some photos of our HYPE leaders preparing for their big debut, taken by our Nutrition teacher extraordinaire, Miss Katie Berky! #thefoodtrust #getHYPEphilly

Apologies for the delay in posting about this wonderful event, but we've just been sidetracked with Eagles Mania all week! Last Friday, local artist Keith Greiman hosted his 2nd annual Art for Hackett fundraiser at Minnow Lane. It was another fun and successful night, this time with more artists (47 in total) contributing their 4"x4" pieces to the event. Thank you to everyone who braved the cold and made it out! And if you couldn't make it but would still like to purchase a piece, there are about 10 unsold pieces still available until the end of the month at Minnow Lane!! So, go buy yourself a lovely piece of art by a local artist and support your local public school. Win win!!

We are so excited to share the news that a me...

We are so excited to share the news that a member of our community, Chris Guido, is one of nine RSM US Foundation employees from across the nation to be awarded $10,000 through their "Pursue Your Passion" Program! He will use this grant to advance science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through the creation of a Maker's Space at Hackett Elementary. You might be asking "what is a Maker's Space?", well Chris Guido describes it as "a place for children to solve problems, invent and be creative. It provides a variety of resources for kids to utilize materials, technology and their mind to solve problems. It allows children to work independently or collaboratively improving concepts for working both independently and with teamwork". You can read more about this exciting news in the articles below: https://rsmuscareers.blogspot.com/2018/01/meet-rsm-pursue-your-passion-winner_93.html?m=1 http://rsmus.com/newsroom/news-releases/2018/rsm-provides-90k-to-help-9-dreams-come-to-life.html?cmpid=soc%3Alicpypw0118pr%3Aj01

Meet RSM Pursue Your Passion Winner: Chris Guido
First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to read my submission. When I first read about the Pursue Your Passion opportunity there was not a moment's hesitation for what I would want to pursue, helping my local elementary school, Horatio B. Hackett Elementary school in Philadelphia.

Blog: A History Minute: Neighborhood Beginnings - Fishtown
The Fish It all started with the fish. Like salmon, shad are born in fresh water, spend several years growing in the ocean, then return to their birthplace to spawn. The largest breeding ground for American shad was the Delaware River estuary.
