On Tues, April 24, members of The Goldenberg Group gave the Little Playhouse, located on the Playground, a much-needed makeover. They worked hard to rehab the interior of the playhouse with a new table, bench and shelving, as well as a new paint job! The volunteers also built and installed a giant, wood xylophone that will be the start of an "everyday item" music zone. The wonderful volunteers from the Goldenberg Group donated 60+ hours of labor. On behalf of all the children that visit Smith - thank you so much!

See you later tonight for our Crowdfunding workshop! CultureWorks is partnering with Vision Driven Artists to provide you with tips+tools for your next crowdfunding campaign. We are also sharing community with two incredible facilitators: Meet Educator, Activist, and Filmmaker Nuala Cabral of POPPYN. The organization raised over $7k to send youth from PHL to South Africa to deepen their understanding of global connectedness and youth power across borders! Also, in the house this evening is Liza Goodell of Spiral Q. They work with nearly 5,000 individuals each year and brings their public work to over 30,000 folks. More so, they help to envision a world of abundance that mobilizes its resources to nurture shared vitality, which takes hard work and funding! There is still time to register: save your seat.

Job growth has been sufficient to lower the formal rate of unemployment, but not enough to get Philadelphia back to 1990 job levels or reduce the high poverty rate. Philadelphia still has 5% fewer jobs than in 1990, while our suburbs are up 26%. Find out the reasons and potential solutions in State of Center City 2018, coming tomorrow. #SOCC2018

"While the average American diet amounts to about 5 kg of carbon dioxide emissions per day, the typical meat- and dairy-heavy diet amounts to three times that. By bringing those resource-intensive diets more in line with the average American diet, we could save 0.27 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in a single day – that’s the equivalent of removing 661 million cars off the road." http://bit.ly/2qSwikW

"If local growth since 2009 was robust enough to make us just average, attaining the 2.3 percent growth rate of America’s largest cities, Philadelphia would have added 45,400 more jobs -- one homegrown Amazon -- on top of existing growth of 55,100 for a total of 100,500 new jobs." The way we see it, art goes beyond walls––it’s everywhere. In curating his collection, Dr. Albert Barnes gave us a fresh new lens to view not only art, but also the world. By arranging works according to color, light, line, and space, we’re invited to make unexpected and exciting connections between pieces from different eras, places, and cultures. Your perspective shifts: Colors seek synchrony. Diverse themes find unity. The effect is so inspiring, it stays with you––long after you’ve left our building. Come on in this spring! Discover why after every visit, you’ll never stop #seeingtheBarnes.

Did you know that we had over 50 volunteers that came on Saturday, for #ComcastCaresDay at Bache-Martin? They helped us spruce up our garden, getting it ready for Bache in Bloom Silent Auction and Raffle, they helped give our school a good spring cleaning, filling up a 40' dumpster, organized Ms. Pierce's closet, AND helped us enter more of our books into the library system (getting us closer to that opening goal). How amazing is that?! A huge THANK YOU to all these wonderful volunteers both from Comcast, and Friends of Bache-Martin; from the students, faculty, and parents!
