Severe roach infestation, crab legs stored in garbage bags close Philadelphia eateries
Cats, dead mice, fly infestations, crawling roaches, missing sneeze guards and crab legs stored inside large garbage bags kept Philadelphia health inspectors busy in this round of Clean Plates. And what's with all those missing food safety certified people? Between July 1 and July 15, inspectors closed 33 facilities for various violations.

Libraries "shape the community and the communities shape the library"

Beyond the Books - The Philadelphia Citizen
Inside North Philly's Lillian Marrero branch of the Free Library, community organizer Tania Ríos Marrero-daughter of the branch's namesake-scribbles neatly at the top of a notebook: "What is the role of a public library?" Word by word, she dissects the meaning of her message. " : Function, purpose.

Learn more about Philadelphia's Read by 4th Grade initiative. There is a role for everyone, not just parents of small children. We are families, educators, literacy specialists, youth program providers, neighborhood merchants, faith leaders, block captains, and much more.

    About - Read by 4th
Read by 4th is a citywide campaign bringing together an ever growing coalition of partners to double the number of children reading at grade level by the start of 4th grade. At the end of the 2017 school year, almost two thirds of children in Philadelphia entered the 4th grade unable to read at grade level.

City Council approves first 64 Rebuild sites: Here's what's coming! | Office of the Mayor
In early June 2018, City Council approved the first round of sites for Rebuild! Here's what that means and why that's important. Rebuild is the City's program to improve parks, rec centers, playgrounds, and libraries across Philly's neighborhoods. person walking trying to open all automobiles doors which are left unlocked.

There's a man walking down 7500 block of Limekiln Pike and he's checking all doors to your automobiles to see if they were left unlocked. 2 people have had things taken from their automobiles due to their own negligence. He's a petty thief who takes cartons of water and paper towels toilet paper and any change you may have in your car. He even took handicapped placards left in the glove compartment. Please take a moment and lock your doors. He goes from car to car. I witnessed him doing this but he moves quickly.

Free Library of Pride For the second year, the Free Library of Philadelphia is going all out for Pride, with neary 50 LGBTQ-related events at its more than 20 branches. “The Free Library of Pride program is really driven by librarians, and the the librarians are really responding to the needs that they see from their patrons,” says Andrew Nurkin, head of the Free Library’s Center for Public Life. That means events for all ages, ranging from the scholarly to the silly. Here are a few highlights and the entire lineup of events: https://libwww.freelibrary.org/calendar/main/home/page/1/terms/free-library-of-pride

Celebrate Pride Month by returning to its roots
June is Pride Month, which means celebrations of the LGBTQ community all month long, including the 30th annual Philadelphia Pride Parade this weekend. Pride has become synonymous with rainbow flags, day drinking, and glitter, but it began with the riots at the Stonewall Inn in 1969 and was fueled by decades of activism - raising awareness about AIDS, agitating for equal rights and marriage equality.
