City Hall construction began in 1872 and wasn’t completed until 1901. Of the buildings many statues, William Penn is obviously the most recognizable. To show him off, Alexander Calder fully assembled Penn and had him on display in the NW corner of City Hall courtyard from 1893 to 1894. He was then disassembled and brought to the top piece by piece. https://www.facebook.com/PhillyHybrid/posts/1710772659015652

WILLIAM PENN STATUE: The curse, the history, the legacy
How much do you know about William Penn? The William Penn statue sits atop Philadelphia's City Hall, a staple in Center City. Here's the history behind the statue - including the curse some believe it left on Philadelphia's professional sports teams.

Passionate and precocious, Eugene Delacroix was born on this day in 1798 in a suburb of Paris, to a family rooted in the French Revolution. Equally revolutionary was his no-holds-barred painting style—riffing strongly off his Venetian idols—which made him a reluctant cause célèbre. Despite this ambiguity, and his lifelong delicate health, Delacroix was quickly established in the Romantic pantheon. The Barnes’s Delacroix in room 13 of the Collection Gallery is an oil study for a late mural masterpiece, the ceiling of the Chapel of the Holy Angels of the Church of Saint-Sulpice, Paris. “I have no love for reasonable painting,” Delacroix states in his journal, and the miasmic subject of “Saint Michael Defeats the Devil” may speak to this individualistic streak. 🎨 Eugene Delacroix. “Saint Michael Defeats the Devil,” probably 1850.
