https://whyy.org/articles/pa-state-appellate-court-judges-could-be-elected-by-districts-under-new-proposal/

Plan to elect Pa. judges by regional district has less precedent than suggested by Senate GOP
When senators passed a proposal this week aimed at creating a citizens commission to draw Pennsylvania's congressional maps, they tacked on an amendment that would fundamentally change the state's appellate courts by electing judges based on regional district, instead of statewide. It's not a unique concept for state courts to be arranged that way.

First step in plan to redevelop Logan Triangle: A $25m basketball complex
Philadelphia's Redevelopment Authority has begun the process of transferring the southwest corner of the infamous Logan Triangle into private hands, a long-awaited step forward. The 36 acres in North Philadelphia west of Roosevelt Boulevard are principally known for the 1,000 houses the city seized through eminent domain in the 1980s.

Letter-to-the-editor: Another anti-growth measure comes out of Philadelphia City Hall - Philadelphia Business Journal
The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia has serious concerns with the legislation introduced today that will create a rigid mandate for employees and employers related to their work schedules. This is yet another anti-growth, out-of-sync initiative introduced in City Council. The mandated scheduling employee/employer legislation will restrict and discourage economic growth.

Can you escape your father’s influence? Renoir: Father & Son/Painting & Cinema traces themes of legacy and innovation between celebrated filmmaker Jean Renoir and his father the great impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir. All throughout June, we’re sharing #Dadandme stories, featuring father and son duos in Philadelphia. Meet Jordan Hadad of a sustainable clothing line Lobo Mau as he chats with his father, Orlando Haddad, singer and guitarist behind Minas, a bossa nova jazz band renowned for bringing Brazilian music to Philadelphia. 1. Looking at your own relationship and careers, can you relate with themes of homage/rivalry in the Renoir exhibition? Jordan (son): My parents came to Philadelphia in 1984 to plant their musical career with their group Minas. It’s strange to think how my father’s music will be immortalized, and now I will be carrying on our family legacy through fashion and music. My sister Nicole and I run our own business, Lobo Mau. The clothing is bold and innovative and reflects songwriting: music has patterns, shape, and structure or it can be free form and improvisational. Orlando (dad): My son has always been my best friend. Our relationship is non-competitive. We both support each other in our paths towards reaching our goals. 2. How are you different and similar? Jordan: We both share a business mentality. My father deals with unexpected situations with grace and strategy. I always try to follow in this direction. Our differences are mainly cultural. He was raised in Brazil; I was raised in Philadelphia. My father’s family were all in the medical field; he was the first in his town to leave the country, try something new and become a musician in a foreign land at 18. Orlando: I grew up in Brazil during the ‘50s and ‘60s––a completely different time from when Jordan was born in America. Sometimes I’m amazed by how much we’re alike. When we sing certain songs together, our voices sound so similar that it’s a bit puzzling. 3. Jean Renoir posed for about 60 paintings by his dad; though he complained about these long sessions, these hours ultimately strengthened his relationship with his father and initiated him into art and cinema. Do you have a similar memory with your dad, which made a lasting influence? Jordan: I recall going to the recording studio with my parents when I was about five years old. I would sit on the floor and listen to their sessions while drawing and writing stories. I think those melodies played a big part in developing my mind creatively. I formed a band 10 years ago and kept music in my life ever since. Music helps me to think and live creatively. 4. How would you give each other advice? Jordan: I’d like to thank my father for always being committed to the family. People say in order to be a successful artist, you don’t have time for anything else, but I give he and my mother a lot of credit for investing time and love into their children. Orlando: I thank Jordan for turning me onto new trends and for inspiring me with his talents and purity of spirit to try my hardest to be a better dad, husband, artist, and human being.

Three months sober and looking for a place to stay in Philly, Louis Gay shelled out $200 to a recovery house recommended by a city social worker. After finding bed bugs, roaches and an abusive manager, he left without staying and asked for his money back. Didn't get it. The recovery house is still operating — but at least the city won't send people there anymore. https://billypenn.com/2018/06/16/after-allegations-of-bed-bugs-and-grift-city-facility-cuts-ties-with-south-philly-recovery-house/

Louis Gay had three months sober under his belt, and he needed a place to live. The 51-year-old West Philadelphia man spent a lifetime misusing alcohol before he entered treatment for addiction a few months ago.
