Some more good news out of the neighborhood (...

Some more good news out of the neighborhood (if we do say so): This latest rendering by Metcalfe Architecture & Design, LLC (also our architects at Lovett Park - come see it tomorrow!) shows the future of Mt Airy Art Garage - whose Holiday Art Market is 12-6pm tomorrow and Sunday at 7165 Germantown. As you probably remember, MAAG was forced to leave their longtime home on West Mt. Airy Ave, and we helped them get situated in their temporary home at 6622 Germantown - while the planning and design process happens for their new home across the street at 6651-59 Germantown. East Mt. Airy Neighbors (EMAN) will host a zoning committee meeting, open to the public, at the brand new community room at Lovett on Monday at 7:30pm. Come out and hear what's in store for MAAG (a ground floor gallery, six apartments upstairs, and art studios in the basement). Please note: The sculpture on the left side of the building is a placeholder to show the intent for public art. Its final look remains to be determined, and we have a design contest. Details TBD.

And now, for some GOOD NEWS out of City Hall: Councilwoman Cindy Bass's Bill #170856, to authorize the City to acquire the train trestle over Germantown Avenue next to Trolley Car Diner, has PASSED. That means that continuation of the Cresheim Trail can begin in earnest. The first phase will extend the existing mile-and-a-half-or-so between Allens Lane and Germantown Ave out to Stenton Avenue along the old railroad right-of-way. Eventually, it will continue past Stenton and connect to Fort Washington State Park and the Tookany-Tacony-Frankford Creek Trail. Kudos to Councilwoman Bass for the bill, and especially to Susan Dannenberg and the Friends of the Cresheim Trail for their years of advocacy and trail building.
