At the Northwood Civic Association meeting on January 16th, members voted not to oppose an application to legalize an existing triplex at 4725 Northwood Street. The zoning had lapsed for the property due to a technicality and it had been in legal use as a multi family previously. It is not in the Deed Restricted area.

“On the one hand we are called to play the Good Samaritan on life’s roadside, but that will be only an initial act. One day we must come to see that the whole Jericho Road must be transformed so that men and women will not be constantly beaten and robbed as they make their journey on life’s highway. True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar. It comes to see than an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.” - Martin Luther King Jr. #mlk #mlkday

Hi all, my name is Abbie and I am with Temple University. We are doing a study on how men make ends meet in the Frankford area. We are looking to do interviews with men ages 25-34 who have lived in the Frankford area for at least a year. We will speak about various topics, including employment history and what it is like living in Frankford- we would like to hear your thoughts about the community, including the strengths. The purpose of the study is to work with the community to influence policy makers and generate positive change in the community, such as increased job opportunities and after-school programs. The interviews take place at St. Marks church on Frankford Ave off of Unity St and are held whenever it is convenient for the participant. Participants will receive $50 once they complete the interview. No identifiers or names will be used in the study, and participants do not have to bring ID. If you know of someone who qualifies, you can refer them and, once they complete their interview, you will receive $25 (you can refer as many people as you like, and will receive $25 per participant- we have had one woman in the community make about $400 this way). If you are interested, or know someone who may be interested please call or text 215-314-3234. Thanks!
