  • West Oak Lane Cs reviewed by a parent

A ZERO! Do not send your kids here! They are adamant about discipline (detentions, etc) but getting them to help a struggling child is like pulling teeth, teachers leave right after dismissal like clock punchers. My child was promised bus service and has since missed many days due to driver call outs . Now we are told there is NO bus to pick her up or drop her off. This is her last year thankfully, if it wasn t so late in the year, I would have transferred her ANYWHERE BUT HERE!!!

Philadelphia's housing boom finally reaches Mount Airy. Can it avoid the mistakes of other neighborhoods? | Inga Saffron
Philadelphia is famously a city of neighborhoods, each with its own cherished set of zoning peculiarities, and the Planning Commission is determined to create a customized growth plan for every one of them. After six years of going from neighborhood to neighborhood, the commission has now completed 17 out of 18 district plans.

Please join Art Matthews in a discussion of his book, Historical Commemoration of the Black in Blue. The book is a collection of photos and articles that commemorate some of the accomplishments of African Americans in law enforcement; primarily in the Philadelphia Police Department. Mr. Matthews has researched the ten-year campaign (from 1871 to 1881) by the African American citizens of the historic 7th Ward, to hire African Americans as police officers. Copies of the book will be available. Thursday, May 17, 2018 6:30 P.M.

Through Cooking, Immigrants Better Understand English, America
Food and conversation go together like love and marriage; they are a natural pairing, one that evokes home and comfort. That is exactly why the Free Library of Philadelphia offers cooking classes to immigrants and refugees. They learn American cooking, sure, but they also learn the English language.

Weather is fine for Pokemon Go

What the Free Library learned about civic engagement from Pokémon Go - Generocity Philly
Yes, Pokémon Go is still a thing. The augmented reality game for smartphones exploded in Summer 2016 and while its popularity has certainly dwindled, it still had 65 million active monthly users a year out (and still prompts meetups in Philadelphia). The game can obviously bring people together.

Dog treats on cutting board, tobacco water pipe on self close Philly eateries
What were dog treats doing on a restaurant cutting board? In this round of Clean Plates, a tobacco water pipe with residue in it, "potentially hazardous pudding pastries" and, of course, dead mice kept Philadelphia food inspectors busy as they temporarily closed 39 facilities between April 15 and April 30 for various violations.

Star Party Friday evening April 20, 2018 was awesome. We had two astronomers bring their professional telescopes. We saw the moon’s surface in great detail. We also saw Venus and the Big Dipper. Thank you to astronomers Jerry, Mike and Robbin. To all who attended it was a night to remember. I heard one of our young attendees say he never liked science before until now.
