Will the First Blood Test for Concussions be a Game Changer?
Here in Philadelphia, we're still relishing the thrill of long-awaited victory as the ticker tape from the Eagles' Super Bowl parade flutters from the trees. Even as we watched the game, however, we couldn't escape the ever-present risk of brain injuries in football, as several players suffered game-ending hits.

Young Heroes Outreach Begins Action Phase

NLM’s year-long Young Heroes Outreach Program, which takes the Museum’s lessons on civic leadership directly into schools, is now entering the phase when the students choose a social issue that matters to them and plan Action Steps to address that issue. Students in the seventeen schools NLM currently serves have been brainstorming and researching issues for the past several weeks. Their breadth of knowledge and commitment is truly impressive. The students have been considering  a wide range of topics from bullying to gerrymandering. The following seven schools have made their decisions. A formal presentation of each school’s social issue will take place at our annual Young Heroes Impact Celebration on June 2 at Girard College. Watch for event information on this website.

Phase-Out of SEPTA Token Sales at Vending Mac...

Phase-Out of SEPTA Token Sales at Vending Machines Concludes – Week of February 26 The gradual phase-out of token sales at vending machines on the Market-Frankford and Broad Street Lines concludes this coming week. Sales of tokens at vending machines will end next week at the following locations: City Hall Station and Olney Transportation Center on the Broad Street Line and 15th Street Station on the Market-Frankford Line. By the end of February, tokens will no longer be sold at cashier booths or vending machines on the Market-Frankford, Broad Street and Norristown High Speed Lines. SEPTA Key Ambassadors will continue to be at stations to assist customers in purchasing fares and transitioning to the SEPTA Key Card and Travel Wallet. A SEPTA Key Card, loaded with funds in the Travel Wallet, offers the same discounted fare as using tokens and transfers. 2, 5 and 10 packs of tokens will continue to be available at SEPTA Sales Offices at: SEPTA Headquarters (1234 Market Street, Philadelphia), 69th Street Transportation Center, Frankford Transportation Center, Olney Transportation Center and 15th Street. While SEPTA will continue to accept tokens for fare payment until notice, in March, SEPTA will begin phasing out token sales at the remaining Authority-owned locations, including major sales offices and Regional Rail stations. A full schedule for these locations will be announced in the coming weeks. Token sales at over 200 third-party retailers will also continue until further notice. The phase-out of token sales represents the next major step forward for the SEPTA Key fare modernization project. Customers who still use tokens and paper transfers are urged to make the switch now to a SEPTA Key Card, which are currently free with a $10 minimum Travel Wallet load. The Travel Wallet feature allows customers to add value to a SEPTA Key Card for tap-and-go travel on all Transit modes, including buses, city and suburban trolleys, trackless trolleys, the Market-Frankford Line, the Broad Street-Line/Broad-Ridge Spur and the Norristown High Speed Line. Customers who currently use tokens, paper transfers or pay with cash can transition to the convenience, security and added features of the Key card.
