“On Sept. 22, 2017, a particle known as a neutrino zinged down from the sky and through the ice of Antarctica at nearly the speed of light, setting off a cascade of alarms in an array of detectors called IceCube.” https://nyti.ms/2NJJJNH

It Came From a Black Hole, and Landed in Antarctica
For the first time, astronomers followed cosmic neutrinos into the fire-spitting heart of a supermassive blazar. It was the smallest bullet you could possibly imagine, a subatomic particle weighing barely more than a thought. It had been fired out of a gravitational gun barrel by a cosmic blunderbuss, a supermassive black hole.

Calling all film buffs: If you haven’t seen our Renoir exhibition exposing the intersections between painting and cinema, don't miss the show’s final weeks! Here’s an interesting fact from The Criterion Collection: “One of the juxtapositions in the exhibition sets Pierre-Auguste’s 1876 painting 'The Swing' next to a clip from Jean’s 1936 film 'A Day in the Country.' To shoot the film’s most famous scene, Renoir had a contraption set up that would allow his cinematographer to sway along with his young actress on an outdoor swing.” #DadandMe 🔎Checkout screenings of Jean Renoir films at Lightbox Film Center, now through September 3rd. ➡️ Book tickets: http://bit.ly/Renoir-Father-Son 🔗 Read The Criterion Collection review: https://www.criterion.com/current/posts/5719-juxtaposing-pierre-auguste-and-jean-renoir
