“Known for their complex, improbable migrations, most monarchs embark on 2,000-mile journeys each fall, from breeding grounds as far north as Canada’s maritime provinces to the Sierra Madre mountains in central Mexico.” http://wapo.st/2rt5vON

Monarch butterfly migration was off this year and researchers are worried
Thanksgiving was right around the corner, and a sizable number of one of America's most famous migrants could be seen still sputtering south. Not across the Texas-Mexico border, where most monarch butterflies should be by that time of year.

On this day in 1832, Édouard Manet was born. The French painter faced a great deal of rejection in his early career, like many of the founding impressionists. The French Academy disliked Manet’s abstracted painting style as well as his disregard for classical tradition. #LOOKSLOWLY at “Young Woman in a Garden.” Note Manet’s penchant for flattened surfaces, bright colors, and gestural brushwork. See the white color of the woman’s glove and scarf? That’s actually the unpainted preparation layer for the canvas! The artist intentionally left this part of the canvas unpainted––a break from artistic tradition that scandalized many about Manet’s paintings. Later, his work became pivotal to the modernist movement. 🎨 Édouard Manet. Young Woman in a Garden (Jeune femme dans un jardin), 1879
