As part of “Terracotta Warriors of The First Emperor,” on view through March 4, 2018, The Franklin Institute has developed a special Augmented Reality experience for the exhibition. http://bit.ly/2xdSuKy Download our Terracotta Warriors AR app today for iPhone or Android to experience this wonder of archaeology in a whole new way: http://bit.ly/tcwar

A better life through augmented reality? Really!
What do the Franklin Institute, Ikea North America Services, QVC, and the Fringe Fest have in common? They're betting on augmented reality - a commingling of the real world we live in with computer-generated imagery that makes the scene better (or weirder) for consumers.

New research suggests that winemaking may have gotten its start at least eight thousand years ago. http://n.pr/2jqIyba

Georgian Jars Hold 8,000-Year-Old Winemaking Clues
Anthropologist Patrick McGovern, at the University of Pennsylvania, has been pursuing the origins of wine for many years, and that search took him to the mountainous areas east of the Black Sea, in what is today Georgia, Armenia, and Iran. "Everything pointed to that region as the area to investigate," he says.

    Sweetish's Farewell Show
After 3 1/2 years of puppets, puns, and live "movie magic," Sweetish is coming to an end. Grouped randomly in 2014 for a live sketch comedy game show, Julia Hudson, Bobby Lang, Maura Pennington, Erik Sojka, and Brian Craig continued to meet every week, bonding over pop culture, hot goss, and fine Italian dining, and continued to perform on a regular basis.

Recently coined by scientists from the University of Portsmouth in England, the term 'kleptopredation' is defined as the act of hunting an animal with a full stomach and was first observed being employed by a particular kind of sea slug. http://bit.ly/2iX1DSl

Kleptopredation is a new scientific term for super-sizing a meal at sea
Kleptropredation isn't a crime, though the newly-coined term has a criminal ring, and the act is kind of like theft-meets-murder-in-a-meal. Technically, it's when a predator eats prey that has just hunted and has a full belly-such that the predator ends up eating its prey's prey as well.

Congratulations and our thanks to November’s ...

Congratulations and our thanks to November’s Volunteer of the Month, Jasmine Ingram. A graduate of The Franklin Institute’s Partnerships for Achieving Careers in Technology and Science (PACTS) program, Jasmine Ingram has served as a member of the PACTS Alumni Board, attended mentor/student workshop sessions, run our college tour seminar, and headlined our PACTS Alumni Speaker series ever since she graduated from college. Jasmine graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and is currently working as a data-marketer. In October, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the PACTS Program. Jasmine was the Anniversary Alumni Chair for the event. The success of that event was due, in large part, to the hard work that Jasmine put in calling PACTS graduates and attending and hosting meetings with various Franklin Institute staff, parents and PACTS grads. Two Stars Slammed Into Each Other And Solved Half Of Astronomy's Problems. What Comes Next?
Progress, as they say, is slow. In science, this is often true even for major breakthroughs; rarely is an entire field of research remade in a single swoop. The Human Genome Project took a decade. Finding the first gravitational waves took multiple decades. So it's hard to overstate the enormous leap forward that astronomy took on Aug.
