Weather nerd time! As a cold front is making its way through the area today, a sea breeze is moving inland behind it. If you look close enough, you can make out the faint east-west oriented front on radar moving south through southern NJ and the north-south oriented sea breeze fine line moving westward and inland along and north of the front in eastern NJ. Why is this?? The wind ahead of the front is westerly which hinders the sea breeze boundary from propagating westward and inland, essentially "pushing" it toward the coast. The wind behind the front is northerly and therefore the wind is no longer "pushing" the sea breeze toward the coast. The result is the sea breeze moving inland. 🤓

"Excuse me, Miss, what are you going to do with that bucket of gravel, asks he", "Why, I'm going to place it around my tree" says she. The truck tore up the pavement digging up the street, there's grass growing, neighbors don't like it, dogs are pissing in it', so I"m going to put gravel to discourage it'... "As long as you're using it on City Property" says he. This is a scene from a Keystone Kop episode, Certainly, taking property from...egad!...the city..that doesn't belong to you should be punishable accordingly. Is there cause for real concern here? At the same moment as the cop stopped to give her the business, across the street, a guy in long dreadlocks and looking very unkempt was shining a light into cars looking for something.
Gee, Officer K, I hope you drilled him on why he was shining a light into cars that early in the morning.
While you're on intense patrol, be on the lookout please for the culprit that broke into the 2 homes in the 1800 block of S.19th Street and stole real items of importance to city dwellers. Those crimes have never been solved although it's been said that it's a very local culprit. Not as important as thievery from the city, I agree, nevertheless...

Good Saturday morning! A cool start to the day with temperatures in the 50s, with even some 40s across mainly the Poconos and northwestern New Jersey. Plenty of sunshine today with afternoon temperatures rising into the 80s for most of the area. The wind will turn more southerly this afternoon, and this will allow for some cooling along the coast. Going to the beach? There is a low risk of rip currents today. For the surf zone forecasts, check out this page: https://www.weather.gov/phi/surfrip4

Don't know about you, but we are loving the current weather! Temperatures will be on the rise through Monday, providing a break from the cool, wet weather we've generally been dealing with over the past few weeks. In fact, most places are forecast to top 90 degrees on Monday. Return flow will bring more moisture to the region and higher dew points starting on Sunday, so we will likely be dealing with high heat indices by Monday. Have a great weekend everyone.

Storms last night produced an interesting outflow boundary that moved south across New Jersey over night. An outflow boundary (a.k.a gust front) is essentially a boundary between cooler air descended from a thunderstorm that sinks and spreads outward due to to its higher density than surrounding air. The radar detects insects and/or dust that are lofted into the air by the wind along this outflow, which is why you can see it as a line on the radar loop here.

5:30 am Update: Heavy rainfall set up overnight along a west to east line just north of Philadelphia with some areas picking up over 5 inches of rain. The area of heavy rainfall continues to move off to the south. There are many issues with water on roadways this morning, so check your route before you head out the door.
