***Evening Update*** Rain continues to gradually overspread the region from southwest to northeast and will continue to do so through this evening. The rain could be heavy at times overnight and while we are not expecting any widespread, major problems, localized urban and small stream flooding could occur in a few spots. The heaviest rain tapers off Wednesday morning but some showers may return by afternoon. Thursday will feature a respite with sunshine and relatively warm temperatures before the next system could bring some more rain by Friday. In the longer range, the outlook heading into next week is for mainly dry and progressively warmer weather! Showers are currently moving into the area from the west. Temperatures will remain warm enough for rain but some snow is likely to mix in for the Poconos and extreme northwest New Jersey. Rain and snow showers should move out of the area by mid afternoon. Winds will pick up as showers move through and will remain blustery through the evening with lows in the mid 30s throughout much of the region and near 30 for the Poconos and northern New Jersey.

But what was really disgusting was the number of cases of mice and rat droppings that were found in children's classrooms and restrooms. Philadelphia food inspectors temporarily closed 34 facilities between April 1 and April 13.

Good things come in trees. As many of you know, East Point Breeze Neighbors participates in the PHS : Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's Street Tree planting twice a year, in November and in April. This Saturday, April 21, is the day! We, along with our friends at Newbold CDC and West Passyunk Neighbors have a total of 25 trees to stick in the ground, including 10 in the EPBN service area. We need a few more able-bodied neighbors to help dig some pits and plant some trees. If you can volunteer on Saturday morning (around 9:30am), comment here, PM us or email clean@epbneighbors.org. BONUS POINTS if you happen to have a heavy-duty digging shovel, a pick-ax or a push broom that you can bring along! This is a regular Tree Party, and as a great poet once said: After the Party is the Afterparty! All volunteers are invited for pizza and beer post-trees at Brewery ARS! NOTE - our newest neighborhood Tree-Tenders group, Point Breeze Tree Tenders is also planting trees on 21 April. Their "zone" is WEST of 18th street, so if you live closer to that side of the Breeze, give them a shout -With their trees added, we're up to almost FORTY NEW TREES! The annual 17th Police District Advisory Council Banquet is coming up on Saturday, May 19th at 7pm! The banquet supports programming for the district, which includes the Blue Ribbon Awards, honoring officers each month who have meade steller contributions to the community. The PDAC also provides annual scholarships for local teens, hosts community block parties, and feeds officers and those in need during the holidays.
