Maria Quiñones-Sánchez for Congress?

Holly Otterbein, Staff Writer at philly.com speculates on the possibility that the redistricting that was ordered by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, if it becomes a reality, opens the possibility that some new folks may try to unseat the incumbents in 2 Congressional districts.  Since there is little competition from the Republican party, it would be interesting to see some among the Democrats.

Transit-rich and ripe for revival, Frankford struggles to make space for Penn Fruit landmark - Philly
The empty, barrel-shaped building at the northern end of the Market-Frankford Line looks like an aircraft hangar long past its useful life. "Art is in the eye of the beholder," said City Councilwoman Maria Quiñones-Sanchez, who represents the community. "I'm not necessarily the best one, but that is ugly."

Transit-rich and ripe for revival, Frankford struggles to make space for Penn Fruit landmark – Philly

Philly.com turns the spotlight on Frankford today and aims it at the old Holiday Thriftway at Pratt and Frankford.  It is a landmark and yet it is still vacant 2 years after Thriftway closed.

Philly.com turns the spotlight on Frankford today and aims it at the old Holiday Thriftway at Pratt and Frankford. It is a landmark and yet it is still vacant 2 years after Thriftway closed. It sounds like either nobody wants to use it or more likely, Rite Aid, the owner of the property, has no incentive to cooperate in turning it over to a new owner.

Frankford Memories from 2001

The video below was produced back in 2001 when there was a great deal of very positive activity on Frankford Avenue.   The five people who were interviewed for their recollections of Frankford give first person accounts of things we can now only read about.  It is only about 20 minutes long but well worth seeing again. Thanks to Joe Menkevich for digging up the old VHS tape.

In the wake of the tragic school shooting in Florida last week, here is an excellent link on talking to our children about violence. https://www.nasponline.org/resources-and-publications/resources/school-safety-and-crisis/talking-to-children-about-violence-tips-for-parents-and-teachers?mc_cid=8d2de1f1e0&mc_eid=93ced7bb74

Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers
High profile acts of violence, particularly in schools, can confuse and frighten children who may feel in danger or worry that their friends or loved-ones are at risk. They will look to adults for information and guidance on how to react.

Veterans of the Month for February 2018

100 years ago, the United States was at war.  It became official on April 6th of 1917 and in June of that year, young men all over America and Frankford, began registering for the draft.  The war in Europe had been going on since 1914 and was at a stalemate.  It would take the entry of the United States to bring it to an end.

Price of Children’s Lives

NEAR AND FAR

    Price of Children's Lives
We must ride the tide for Humanity, dig deep for sanity. No longer can we not face reality, when the nature of life is not a fantasy. When children are dying in buildings that they call sanctuaries. Politicians should hear the call of parent's near and far.
