Frankford High Shows Off Expanded Arts Curriculum

Thursday night was the big one for a lot of the students at Frankford High School as family, friends, alumni and the public streamed into the main entrance to take in the presentations.  The Program was well organized and used all of the first floor of the main building for every kind of display and performance starting at 5 PM.

Winter Reading Challenge: December 15, 2017 through February 28, 2018 Beginning December 15, 2017, the Free Library will host an all ages online Winter Reading Challenge. The program encourages participants to continue reading all winter long, and also provides ideas for other fun activities. How do I sign-up? Visit https://freelibrary.beanstack.org on or after December 15 to sign-up. If you already have a Beanstack account, you simply need to sign-in and then register for the 2018 Winter Reading Challenge for your age group. How does the program work? Earn points and badges for reading and doing activities this winter! For every 100 minutes you read, you will earn 100 points. Activities earn 100 points as well. There are suggested point-based goals for each age group, or you can make your own goal! Is there a prize? Yes! For every 100 points you earn, you will receive 1 entry into a raffle for a mystery fun pack! One mystery fun pack will be given out for each age group. Winners will be contacted by March 15, 2018.

You can get a really good pretzel, right here in Frankford.  It’s up at 5331 Oxford Avenue.  Pretzel Works has been there a long time baking pretzels and bagels for commercial customers.  Mike Naselsky, the owner, decided to open up a storefront window for people to buy retail and I stopped by to see what was happening.

If they did not have that license, they would not be selling beer and liquor by the shot. So, if they are doing that in violation of the regulations, their license should be revoked.

Kitty Foyle was a Nice Girl from Frankford

Ginger Rogers won the Oscar for her performance in the title role of the 1940 Movie “Kitty Foyle” about the star crossed love between a girl from Frankford and the son of an aristocratic Main Line Family. The book upon which the movie is based, written by Christopher Morley, contained much coverage of her early years in Frankford but that part of the story line did not make it to the screen.

Frankford High School will be holding its 1st Annual Coffee House on Thursday December 14th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.  The night will consist of work from all classes from the Arts Department. These works of art will include screening of short films, photography assignments, drawings, ceramic pieces, musical performances, and short skits.

    State Senator Christine Tartaglione and State Representative Jason Dawkins brought home the bacon when they presented a check for $200,000 to Joseph Marziello, CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia, on November 22 nd. Tartaglione and Dawkins invested a lot of time and influence to get the grant for the club.

    Lawncrest residents suspicious of utility worker scam
    A man posing as a utility worker may be targeting unsuspecting homeowners. A family got him on camera this weekend. The man claimed to be with PECO and needed to get inside the home of a Lawncrest mother. "I believe he was trying to get in my home and to harm me and my family," she told FOX 29.
