Frankford’s “New Academic Opportunity”

Once you work in the education field, you never ever retire because teaching and learning becomes a part of who you are. It was a real pleasure as well as refreshing to meet Jessica Hasben, the CEO of Qor Charter School. Once you meet Jessica, too, you’ll find that she does indeed have that passion for children and their education that you, too, become a believer and hope that she does indeed succeed.

Have a Pretzel

You can get a really good pretzel, right here in Frankford.  It’s up at 5331 Oxford Avenue.  Pretzel Works has been there a long time baking pretzels and bagels for commercial customers.  Mike Naselsky, the owner, decided to open up a storefront window for people to buy retail and I stopped by to see what was happening.

Why Does a Restaurant Need Bullet Proof Glass

Don’t know and don’t care

Why Does a Restaurant Need Bullet Proof Glass
It isn't really about restaurants though. It's about Stop and Go stores that are operating with an LCB license for a restaurant. If they did not have that license, they would not be selling beer and liquor by the shot. So, if they are doing that in violation of the regulations, their license should be revoked.

Kitty Foyle was a Nice Girl from Frankford

Ginger Rogers won the Oscar for her performance in the title role of the 1940 Movie “Kitty Foyle” about the star crossed love between a girl from Frankford and the son of an aristocratic Main Line Family. The book upon which the movie is based, written by Christopher Morley, contained much coverage of her early years in Frankford but that part of the story line did not make it to the screen.

Private Schools Show Growth in Some Neighborhoods

There is an interesting story on Philadelphia Neighborhoods about the fluctuations in enrollment at Our Lady of Port Richmond School. Will parents pay more to send their children to what they see as better schools?  Does the presence of those better school choices attract families to a neighborhood?
