Calling all bakers! It's time for the Annual East Falls Candlelight Carol Sing! The Carol Sing will take place on Wednesday, December 13th, 7PM (music begins at 6:45), in McMichael Park. A baked goods and hot cider reception will follow at the Falls Presbyterian Church. We are looking for bakers who will volunteer to provide finger-friendly baked goods to make this another successful Carol Sing. Cookies, brownies and bars are always popular. Please bring your baked goods to the church any time on the day of the Carol Sing. A table will be set up right inside the Vaux Street doors starting at 7AM. If you can help by bringing baked goods to the Carol Sing, please e-mail me or call (215-849-7864) Thank you! Faith McDowell, Friends of Falls of Schuylkill Library fmcdowell@dvcs.com

Community activists finally got a win against "Stop and Go" corner liquor stores as Governor Wolf signed a bill last month cracking down on these nuisance establishments. For years, activists in Allegheny West fought what seemed a losing battle against a surge of corner convenience stores whose only convenience seemed to be cheap beer and alcohol shots to go.

It's the holiday season once again and I'm already suffering from the Holi-daze. Holi-Daze (n): Confused & anxious behavior exhibited between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, associated with family gatherings, extensive travels, enormous meals, unwarranted advice, excruciating Christmas song radio play, long checkout lines, and overall yuletide yada yada yada.

On Tuesday 12/5/17, The Committee on Rules of City Council will hold a Public Hearing at 10:00 AM in City Hall, Room 400, to hear testimony on Bill 17082. This is the much anticipated Ordinance to establish a temporary Demolition Moratorium (entitled 'Historical Preservation') with respect to properties in the area of Ridge Ave. between Wissahickon Creek and Northwestern Ave. Written testimony from the 21st Ward RCO's (Registered Community Organizations) will be entered into the record and we expect two representatives from our groups will be permitted to speak. HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT! All you have to do is attend! We want to fill the seats! Your attendance will speak volumes to City officials. Councilman Jones has walked along The Ridge with RCO representatives and understands our concerns. We are most grateful to him and his staff for drafting this ordinance. See you there!

'Twas the night before the Thanksgiving Feast when all through the halls, the teachers were busy preparing a feast in East Falls. The places were set at the tables with care in hopes that some goodies soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds; while visions of turkeys danced in their heads. 🦃❤️ The tables endlessly line the halls at Mifflin tonight! Ms.Yarnall and the teachers will be cooking all evening. The deserving students of Mifflin will eat like kings and queens tomorrow. We're giving thanks for these wonderful teachers, staff, and volunteers!

(Take Another) Little Piece of Our Past

As new construction goes up, older buildings come down. What can Fallsers do to save our architectural legacy?

(Take Another) Little Piece of Our Past
East Falls and Allegheny West lost more than lovely architecture last month: the old "Catifsh Café" had been a favorite meeting place for folks from both neighborhoods since it was built in 1875. Back in the 80's/90's, it was famous for big, juicy burgers and the occasional Charles Barkley sighting.
