Winter Reading Challenge: December 15, 2017 through February 28, 2018 Beginning December 15, 2017, the Free Library will host an all ages online Winter Reading Challenge. The program encourages participants to continue reading all winter long, and also provides ideas for other fun activities. How do I sign-up? Visit https://freelibrary.beanstack.org on or after December 15 to sign-up. If you already have a Beanstack account, you simply need to sign-in and then register for the 2018 Winter Reading Challenge for your age group. How does the program work? Earn points and badges for reading and doing activities this winter! For every 100 minutes you read, you will earn 100 points. Activities earn 100 points as well. There are suggested point-based goals for each age group, or you can make your own goal! Is there a prize? Yes! For every 100 points you earn, you will receive 1 entry into a raffle for a mystery fun pack! One mystery fun pack will be given out for each age group. Winners will be contacted by March 15, 2018.

We’ve had a hawk visitor at the library all week. The courtyard seems to have become his own personal buffet. Make sure you try to spot him if visiting the library!
We are currently experiencing limited services with regards to our OPAC system. At the moment, we cannot renew materials, look up library card accounts, or check items in. If you are planning to visit us today, please be aware of this. While we are checking materials out manually, you must have your library card with you, and limit your checkouts to five items or less. Thank you for your cooperation.
A reminder- Today and tomorrow The Free Library of Philadelphia will be performing maintenance on our library catalog. Most services will remain available. You will still be able to search the catalog, check out and return library materials, renew your books online or in person, pay fines, use library computers and our wi-fi, and use electronic resources like Overdrive, Kanopy, and Hoopla. However, during these two days, you will not be able to place holds, sign up for a new library card, or use our automated telephone renewal service. There will also be a short period after 9 p.m. on Tuesday that The Free Library catalog will be completely unavailable. Regular library operations expect to resume by Wednesday morning, December 6. Thank you for your patience!
