A gnawed bag of raw poultry with mouse feces on the package in a walk-in cooler is just gross. Knowing there could be meat particles on the ceiling will have me looking up from now on. And, the person in charge at another restaurant placed his hand inside a rice container after handling a container with mice droppings....ick.

#OnThisDay in 1943, The Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers combined into one team due to player shortages caused by WWII. The "Steagles" went 5-4-1, and the two teams went back to normal in 1944!

    Steagles - Wikipedia
The Steagles were the team created by the temporary merger of two National Football League (NFL) teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles, during the 1943 season. The teams were forced to merge because both had lost many players to military service during World War II.

Celebrate Juneteenth at these six family events

Noon to 8 p.m. Saturday June 16, Johnson House and vicinity, 6306 Germantown Ave., free, 215-438-1768, johnsonhouse.org

7 p.m. Saturday, June 16, Cliveden, 6401 Germantown Ave., $15 (recommended for ages 12 and up, reservations required), 215-848-1777, cliveden.org.

Celebrate Juneteenth at these six family events
The Juneteenth holiday originated on June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers led by Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to spread the word that the Emancipation Proclamation had ended slavery in the U.S. - two and a half years earlier - and that it was being enforced.

Many communities and organizations across the country are observing Juneteenth this weekend. Among many celebrations is the 12th annual Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival on Saturday, June 16, 2018, from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm on the 6300 block of Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia. This is a free event at which there will be food, music, historic reenactments, a marketplace, and more! For more information, see the event page on the Johnson House Historic Site Germantown website: http://www.johnsonhouse.org/home/philadelphia-juneteenth-festival/ Many celebrate June 19, called Juneteenth, as the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, at which time he took control of the state and announced that slavery had been abolished. Since then, a rich tradition of Juneteenth celebrations, like the one mentioned above, have developed across the country. You can learn more about the Emancipation Proclamation here: https://www.archives.gov/publications/prologue/1993/summer/emancipation-proclamation.html
