Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden, @stoneleighnatu...

Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden, @stoneleighnaturalgarden one of our neighboring gardens in @americasgardencapital, needs our help. The Lower Merion School District informed @natlands, the garden’s owners, last month that it is considering a proposal to seize the garden to build a new school or playing fields. We are surprised and dismayed this could happen after a multi-year, multi-million-dollar renovation to bring more open space to our region. The donation of the John and Chara Haas property, an extraordinary act of generosity, had a singular purpose: to open Stoneleigh up to the general public, so that everyone could enjoy this national and natural treasure free of charge. Gardens like @morrisarboretum and Stoneleigh play an important role in our communities, and offer more than just beauty and respite. In addition to supporting 1,500 jobs, a new study shows that our region’s public gardens collectively generate substantial economic benefits—an estimated $256 million a year. As a fellow public garden, we stand with Stoneleigh and support the efforts being made to keep the garden open. Consider signing the petition to #SaveStoneleigh here: http://bit.ly/2KIPk4C #americasgardencapital

Why YOU should run for a CHCA Board Seat As ...

Why YOU should run for a CHCA Board Seat As the Chestnut Hill Community Association celebrates our 70th Anniversary this year, we’re reminiscing about times when neighbors were passionate volunteers in making Chestnut Hill the place that we all enjoy today. In planning for our next Board of Directors elections, we are extending an open invitation to get to know more about us and the critical role that we perform in the area. This year, we will fill seven open board seats with 3-year terms as well as fill two vacant seats. Why should you care? The Chestnut Hill Community Association is your neighborhood champion. Chestnut Hill feels like a village, but as part of the municipality of Philadelphia, we are regularly challenged with finding the best ways to advocate for the characteristics we hold dear in the face of change and new development. The Physical Division of the CHCA (made up of our Development Review, Land Use Planning & Zoning, and Streetscape Committees) is on the forefront of managing change. Our volunteers work hard to help guide decisions that will have lasting impact for the community. While anyone can run for a board seat, your community association is calling out the need for architects, builders, urban planners, attorneys, preservationists and real estate professionals as well as project managers, financial professionals and executives who can help us with the challenges that we face today in residential conservation, preservation, development and green space efforts. Your community needs you to step up to the plate and help ensure our next 70 years as careful stewards of Chestnut Hill are as thoughtfully managed as our past. Elections will occur before our June Annual Meeting, and nominations are due to our office by May 17. Reach out to our Executive Director Anne McNiff at anne@chestnuthill.org to find out what being a board member entails. There’s a lot going on this year as we celebrate our 70th Anniversary. We hope you will join us!
