Developer Ori Feibush has acquired the site of the former Frankford Chocolate Factory on the north side of Washington Avenue between 21st and 22nd Streets in South Philadelphia, with plans to raze most of the historic structure to make way for apartments, townhouses and stores.

Ori Feibush plans homes and shops at Chocolate Factory site in South Philly
Developer Ori Feibush says his proposal would be a big step toward transforming Washington Avenue, west of Broad Street, from a strip of warehouses and blighted industrial buildings into a dense commercial and residential corridor binding the revitalized neighborhoods to its north and south.

Good morning! A chilly start to the day with temperatures generally in the 30s at this time. However temperatures will moderate to the mid 50s to low 60s by this afternoon under partly to mostly sunny skies. A system will bring some rain and showers tonight into Thursday, mainly north of the I-78, I-80 corridors, but the good news is that dry weather with sunshine is expected for this coming weekend into early next week. Hope everybody is safe and dry this evening. As additional rainfall and flooding reports come in, we will update the Public Information Statement (PNS) and Local Storm Report (LSR). Feel free to pass any reports on to us. Although the rain has ended, many of the smaller rivers and streams are still elevated, and in some cases, are flooded. Continue to exercise caution out there!

Good things come in trees. As many of you ...

Good things come in trees. As many of you know, East Point Breeze Neighbors participates in the PHS : Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's Street Tree planting twice a year, in November and in April. This Saturday, April 21, is the day! We, along with our friends at Newbold CDC and West Passyunk Neighbors have a total of 25 trees to stick in the ground, including 10 in the EPBN service area. We need a few more able-bodied neighbors to help dig some pits and plant some trees. If you can volunteer on Saturday morning (around 9:30am), comment here, PM us or email clean@epbneighbors.org. BONUS POINTS if you happen to have a heavy-duty digging shovel, a pick-ax or a push broom that you can bring along! This is a regular Tree Party, and as a great poet once said: After the Party is the Afterparty! All volunteers are invited for pizza and beer post-trees at Brewery ARS! NOTE - our newest neighborhood Tree-Tenders group, Point Breeze Tree Tenders is also planting trees on 21 April. Their "zone" is WEST of 18th street, so if you live closer to that side of the Breeze, give them a shout -With their trees added, we're up to almost FORTY NEW TREES! ANOTHER NOTE - The deadline for November trees is MAY 7! Too much information for this post, so watch this space next week for more info!

Good afternoon everyone. With the warmer weather we're expecting in the next couple days, many people will want to head to the beach. While the air temperature will be warm, it is important to remember that the water temperatures in the Atlantic and Delaware Bay are still only in the 40s. At these temperatures, hypothermia can begin in as little as 5 minutes without proper attire. If you're heading to the beach in the next couple days, it is best to stay out of the water. Nonetheless, have a great weekend! Check out specific water temperatures here: https://www.nodc.noaa.gov/cwtg/catl_tmap.html.
