How can we encourage more active participation in elections? Change starts with us, and it starts by exercising your franchise. There are few people who legitimately can't vote, even formerly incarcerated and some who are currently incarcerated can. So let's do this!

What we can learn from low Pa. primary election turnout, and why it matters that just 1 in 6 Philly voters showed up
Turnout in Tuesday's primary election was lower in the city than in the rest of the state. Experts cited many reasons for that, and a resultant problem: Uneven voting makes for uneven representation. - Jonathan Lai, Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News

Philly voters to decide if city workers will be trained to prevent sexual harassment
Since the #MeToo movement has gained momentum over the last nine months, corporations across the country and in Philadelphia are evaluating their policies on sexual harassment and sexual misconduct. Many employees have sat through training sessions on the topic. But for city workers in Philadelphia - which does have a prevention policy - there's no mandatory training in place.

"Construction, along with health care and personal care, will account for one-third of all new jobs through 2022, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. There will also be a need for new plumbers and new electricians. And, as politicians debate a massive overhaul of the nation's roads, bridges and airports, the U.S. Department of Education reports that there will be 68 percent more job openings in infrastructure-related fields in the next five years than there are people training to fill them."

Neighbors: if you recognize this vehicle (or the furniture on the trailer, perhaps?) please let the driver of this car know that renting a trailer to dump their old furniture and trash in Mount Moriah Cemetery, or anywhere in this community will not be tolerated and they will be caught. While you're at it, help us catch the people that do this by keeping your eyes peeled for suspicious activity. Take pictures. Submit it to 311. Tell us here! Many of us work hard to try to keep our communities clean and this undermines our efforts. Furthermore, the city has several places where you can take bulk or large refuse to discard it LEGALLY. If you're going to.spare the expense to rent a trailer to.get rid of your trash why risk getting fined in the process?

Neighbors, we need to work harder as citizens to hold our elected officials accountable, and to elect better-qualified and more responsible people to represent us in the first place. We can start by calling our local officials' offices to tell them how we feel about news like this. They are paid to represent us so when they fail, we need to let them know.

How did Philly lose track of $33 million?
City officials are trying to figure out how $33.3 million went missing from the city's main bank account. The discrepancy in how much the city lists as having in its records versus what the bank statements show was first flagged in the city's 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) released in February.
