A reminder of some of the core tenets of public space development for urban designers to consider from Curbed, + a chance to retweet a great picture of The Porch at 30th Street Station.

20 things every city can do to boost the quality of public life
Urbanists have a new playbook: The Assembly Civic Design Guidelines, a new set of recommendations for the public realm published by the Center for Active Design (CfAD)-a nonprofit that promotes design solutions for improving public health-and the Knight Foundation. The CfAD's recommendations might seem like old hat: plant trees, improve public transit, build more bike lanes.

In Pennsylvania, the federal government is housing 50 child immigrants in Pittsburgh as part of its “zero-tolerance” policy. They are being housed at the Holy Family Institute in Emsworth, a Catholic social services organization, which is under contract with the Office of Refugee Resettlement under the Department of Health and Human Services.
