If you saw something, say something. Friday afternoon’s public safety walk at 12th & Fitzwater following the murder of 16 year old Symir Walker that left a 12 yr old injured. Police are still looking for information in this shooting, you can report tips about the area that might help the investigation anonymously at 215-686-TIPS (8477). #putthegunsdown There are resources available: public safety and victims services resources, job opportunities and development programs for young people, and a network of community members who want to help so we don’t lose another life to gun violence. If you’re reading this and are looking for help but you’re not sure how to reach these resources, or maybe you live in the area and we missed your house, call my office at 215-686-3412 and we’ll help get you the info you need.

Read Dracula in real time.* On June 23, at night Jonathan hears the Szgany workmen digging somewhere in the castle. A little later he sees the Count emerge from his window and crawl down the the wall, but this time Dracula is wearing Jonathan’s travelling clothes. While keeping watch later, the three vampire women try to put Jonathan into a trance, as they materialize out of swirling dust, but Jonathan flees, only to hear from the Count’s room, “a sharp wail quickly suppressed. A woman appears below the window in the courtyard and shouts up at Jonathan, “Monster, give me my child!” As she beats on the castle door, Dracula beckons the wolves. The pack descends upon the woman. “Before long they streamed away singly, licking their lips.” Illustration is the cover of the 1916 edition, published by Rider & Son in London. *The novel, Dracula, is comprised of journal entries and letters, all dated, so throughout the year, we’ll be posting a day-by-day account of the plot of Dracula. Follow along with your own reading and feel free to leave comments below (no spoilers for those who may be reading for the first time). #Draculainrealtime

Enough is enough. If anyone has any information that could help bring this family justice, you can report it to the 3rd Police District anonymously. We went door to door in the neighborhood around 12th & Fitzwater yesterday afternoon in a pubic safety walk to support neighbors with direct access to resources and let them know they’re not alone and not hostages in their homes, after a 16yr old lost his life to gun violence last week. Some of the organizations that came out to be supportive were the Mayor’s Office of Violence Prevention, DA’s Office & Young Chances Foundation, CeasefirePA, 3rd Police District and advisory council members from the neighborhood, Moms Bonded by Grief, Institute for Development of African American Youth and young men in the program, Hawthorne Empowerment Coalition and community members, and National Workforce Opportunity Network. Bringing access to public safety resources, victims services and support, employment opportunities and programs for young people, and a network of community members looking to help. I’m encouraged to see a community come together like yesterday, but I wish it wasn’t because we lost another young man to senseless gun violence in our streets #putthegunsdown #thisisntnormal

Victim's family, neighbors send message about gun violence
For the last 10 years, Gwendolyn Toler had come to see Samir Walker as family. The 16-year-old spent summer days playing basketball with her grandson at the Palumbo playground on 9th Street in South Philadelphia. And he had grown so fond of her granddaughter that recently she heard the two talking about going to their junior prom together next year.

Instead of a beer garden, this Kensington space will be a ‘booze garden’

Attico, a big rooftop bar and restaurant, is coming to the new Cambria hotel at Broad & Locust

Instead of a beer garden, this Kensington space will be a 'booze garden'
Philly has become beer garden central. It seems like new ones pop up nearly every week - but a beer garden is not what's coming to the space behind the Crane Arts building in Kensington. Instead, the 3,500-square-foot courtyard will be home to something slightly different.
