Please join Juntos & Galaei Phillyi Monday morning at 11:30 for a press conference/rally to demand that ICE #FreeIvan and allows him to be reunited with his husband. On January 31, Jose “Ivan” Nuñez was attending his marriage interview at USCIS with his husband Paul fully expecting to be in and out of the office. Paul and Ivan are in love and have been married since April 9th, 2016. What should have been a dream come true ended in a nightmare. In the middle of his interview ICE agents stormed into the interview and handcuffed him without warning. We believe that love has no borders and ask you to join us in demanding that ICE free Ivan from detention so he may be reunited with his husband. If Ivan was to be deported back to Mexico, Ivan’s life would be in jeopardy due to his sexuality. His sister, who is also queer, is currently in hiding with her partner back home and close friends of the family have been severely assaulted for their sexual orientation. As of January 13th, USCIS has deemed Ivan and Paul’s marriage petition valid and Ivan has passed his Reasonable Fear interview, meaning there is no reason why he should still be in detention.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today’s post comes fr...

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today’s post comes from the Allegheny National Forest (ANF), Pennsylvania’s only National Forest. This photograph was taken in August 1926 and shows two lovers on the trail to Heart’s Content near Warren, PA. At this site in particular, the U.S. Forest Service conducted a series of experiments and ecological studies that focused on developing new methods to protect America’s beautiful wealth of land. A few examples of the new sustainability concepts introduced at ANF in the 1920s included preserving seeds for future growth, maintaining watersheds, and guarding wildlife habitats. The purpose of this mission was to create a long lasting and healthy forest, one that generations to come could all explore and enjoy. So on this day dedicated to love, show your affection to not only the people you care about, but the places you appreciate too! This post was written by Megan Kelly, Research and Writing Intern at the National Archives at Philadelphia. #happyvalentinesday #valentine #valentinesday #alleghenynationalforest #ANF #forest #love #hisory #archives Citation: Photograph from Heart's Content Trail; Northeastern Forest Experiment Station, Timber Management Research Station; RG095 U.S. Forest Service; National Archives at Philadelphia (NAID: 28208828) and (HMS ID/Record Entry ID: PH-3926).

    Musical Influences
Stew had a passion for music from a young age. Between singing gospel at church and joining an R&B band at 14, his influences span every genre, from Gospel to Pink Floyd. The Wilma Theater added an event.

PART TWO: ADVANCED HOTHOUSE METHODS March 6 – 9 Advanced HotHouse Methods is designed for participants who already have some foundation in the physical and vocal practices of the Wilma HotHouse, either through taking Part One of the HotHouse intensive or through a previous intensive with Blanka Zizka. Advanced HotHouse Methods follows a similar structure as Part One, but will progress into new content. Justin Jain introduces the next level in the Method of Mr. Terzopoulos, which focuses on the vocal aspect of this training. In the second portion of each class, Blanka Zizka delves deeply into text work and what it means to fully embody the text in performance, which as Blanka explains in the Wilma HotHouse's New York Times feature, “is to have emotion, body, voice, all in fluid expression.” SCHEDULE PART TWO: Tuesday, March 6: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Wednesday, March 7: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Thursday, March 8: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM Friday, March 9: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM ... Click on the ticket link to purchase tickets for both part one and part two of the HotHouse Intensive. For questions about the class call Education Assistant Rachel Beecher at 215-893-9456 ext. 113. TUITION: $250 for one week or $400 if you take both Wilma HotHouse Intensive: Part One and Part 2. NOTE: "Introduction to HotHouse Methods" or a previous intensive with Blanka Zizka is a prerequisite for taking "Advanced HotHouse Methods." * All HotHouse intensives are designed for advanced acting students and professional actors, but curious and brave directors, playwrights, educators, etc. are always welcome. * Come prepared to move. The work can be rigorous but adjustments will be made for various body types, injuries, and physical limitations

Philly families mourn their lost, make 9-mile March to End Homicide

When the gunman opened fire near 8th and Spring Garden streets, Phillips’ death was a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. When the police began their investigation, Ferguson said “he laid out there for 45 minutes before he was actually discovered.”

Philly families mourn their lost, make 10-mile March to End Homicide
Ferguson feels especially anxious about gun violence now, she said, and sees the ripple effects in her community. "Because the streets are unsafe, you feel like your family is unsafe," she said. "You're scared to walk the streets, you can't sit on your steps, you're scared to send your children to the store, so it affects everybody."
