Ever wonder if the National Archives and Records Administration has records of aliens and UFOs in our holdings? If so, you’re in luck! Our colleague Joseph Gillette, an Archivist on a cross-training assignment in the National Archives History Office, wrote a series about the Air Force’s Project Blue Book, as well as its precursors, Project Sign and Project Grudge. The purpose of these projects was to investigate the increasing number of unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings throughout America and determine their nature and any potential threat. This blog posted, entitled “INVASION! (of privacy),” is the first in a three part series which explores the Project Blue Book and discusses records of UFOs in the holdings of the National Archives! You can find Part II, “UFOs: Natural Explanations,” and Part III, “UFOs: Man-Made, Made Up, and Unknown,” on the Pieces of History blog here: www.prologue.blogs.archives.gov https://prologue.blogs.archives.gov/2018/04/09/invasion-of-privacy/

Kenney meets with advocates as Abolish ICE protests mark one week

The meeting came as the Abolish ICE demonstrators marked one week since the group first set up camp outside the ICE field office at Eighth and Cherry streets, and then — after police broke up the encampment Thursday — on the edges of City Hall.

Kenney meets with advocates, demonstrators as Abolish ICE protests mark one week
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney met Monday evening with a group of immigrant advocates, as well as members of a protest encampment decrying the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" immigration policy and calling on the city to end its data-sharing contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Watch: Here's what we witnessed in the tense 15 minutes before Philadelphia police raided the Occupy ICE camp

Moments before dozens of Philadelphia Police officers with bikes burst into the “Occupy ICE” camp at Eighth and Cherry streets Thursday, the mood was tense, but civil.

Watch: Here's what we witnessed in the tense 15 minutes before Philadelphia police raided the Occupy ICE camp
The issue with last week's raid, Mayor Kenney said, "was that the actions of the police were recorded but not the warnings that were given prior to the action being taken." Our video sheds light on the confusion preceding the raid.

Ending the information-sharing agreement is one of the top demands made by activists who set up an encampment outside an ICE building at Eighth and Cherry streets last week. They’ve also called for ICE to be abolished.

Mayor Kenney to meet with 'abolish ICE' protester, immigrant advocates Monday
In a victory for activists, Mayor Kenney is meeting Monday with immigrants' rights advocates and at least one protester who recently tried to shut down a local office for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
