ON THIS DATE FEB 21- 1969 A VERY BUSY DAY FOR THE PHILADELPHIA FIRE DEPARTMENT FROM THE OLDTIMERS DESK On this date Feb-21- 1969 a very busy day for the PFD, fighting two extra alarms at the same time within the same local. At 2:08PM, Box-288 was struck for the W.C. Brown Leather Co. at 1701 Tulip St. First in companies found heavy fire in a 4 story buiding. The 2nd & 3rd alarm were struck for this fire and while this was going on, at 2:14PM, Box-4414 was struck at Bath & Ontario St. Eng-28 arrived and found heavy fire and numerious explosions at the Neatsfoot Oil Refining Co. A total of five alarms were sounded before this fire was bought under control. Later this day the PFD wold battle the biggest blaze of the day, when Box-9 was struck at 10:54 PM for 1100 Washington Ave for a fire at the Apple Storage Co. A total of 6 Alarms were struck to blaze this fire under control.A VERY BUSY DAY FOR THE PHILADELPHIA FIRE DEPARTMENT.......
