Due to inclement weather, the National Archives at Philadelphia will be closed on March 21, 2018. Given the forecast, please check our page or www.archives.gov/philadelphia on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning for updates on when our building will reopen. The photograph shared here is from a snow storm that took place on January 20, 1934. Although it was taken 84 years ago in Medford, NJ, this image appears to be quite a familiar scene! Citation: Snow Storm in Medford, NJ; Box 2; Northeastern Forest, Timber Management; RG 095 – Records of the United States Forest Service; National Archives at Philadelphia (NAID: 28208828) and (HMS ID: PH-3926).

The new Philadelphia Historical Burial Places Map launched! The Philadelphia Archaeological Forum has created an extensive geographical database (GIS) that currently includes more than 200 historic burial places in Philadelphia. In addition to being useful to historians, archaeologists, and other researchers, consulting the database of known cemeteries and private family plots will become a starting point in the process of due diligence of both developers and the city of Philadelphia when considering new projects. You can explore the map on their new site, here: http://www.phillyarchaeology.net/paf-activities/burial-places-forum/historic-philadelphia-burial-places-map/
