Vare Washington is trying to bring musical theater back to their school! Performance will be this May, and open to the public. Please consider a donation to help purchase costumes, lighting, props, and the rights to the musical itself. Any amount will help achieve this goal!

Bring Back Our Musical! by Zachary Duberstein
Prior to the merger of Abigail Vare and George Washington Schools, George Washington was known for putting on amazing musical performances; lighting, elaborate costumes, choreographed dance and song routines, the works! Sadly, due to lack of adequate funding, the school has gone without a musical for several years.

While we are not rooting for one team or the other in the upcoming Army vs. Navy game, we must concede that the 1913 regulations governing the admission of candidates into the U.S. Naval Academy were rigorous! While processing a series of records from Record Group 181, Records of the Naval Districts and Shore Establishments, we uncovered an interesting booklet entitled “Regulations Governing Admission of Candidates into the U.S. Naval Academy.” Dated 1913, the regulations outline the U.S. Navy Department’s physical, moral, and intellectual requirements for enlisted Navy personnel to be admitted to the U.S. Naval Academy as midshipmen. To see if you would qualify, try a few of the questions from the practice examination! Or grab a friend and quiz one another! Take the quiz by visiting the Pieces of History blog. This post comes from our very own Samuel Limneos, Archives Technician at the National Archives at Philadelphia. https://prologue.blogs.archives.gov/2017/12/07/do-you-have-what-it-takes-to-be-a-midshipmen-at-the-u-s-naval-academy-1913-edition/#more-28172 Tagging: Army West Point Football, Navy Football, Navy Department Library, Nimitz Library, United States Naval Academy

The leaves in Queen Village are almost all to the ground as Fall ends and Winter begins. We are excited to bring comprehensive leaf clean up to the neighborhood for the second year in a row. Over the next several weeks, we will be working to remove leaves from streets and sidewalks. This helps to keep our neighborhood clean through the Winter months and into the Spring. If we miss your street and it has a lot of leaves to remove, let us know by emailing info@qvna.org and we will try to get to it! Check out these before and after photos of Catharine Street.

Fascinating story about a house everyone in QV has seen... Staying a single family home apparently.

A rare Queen Village mansion eludes redevelopment, will remain a home
Despite Queen Village's heightened attractiveness in recent years, the rare estate-like property at 113-21 Bainbridge Street, owned by Philadelphia's Steen family, could not sell three years ago. But when it was put on the auction block earlier this year, it drew interest from developers, builders, and residents alike.
