PA's new congressional district map looks much less gerrymandered, but gives Dems an edge, experts say

150 N 6th Street

A boost for Democrats, Pa. Supreme Court dramatically overhauls state's congressional map
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has enacted a new congressional district map that onlookers say is much more favorable to Democrats, replacing one the court overturned and deemed an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander last month. Justices described the new map in their 48-page decision as "superior" to other proposals filed for their consideration.

Please join Juntos & Galaei Phillyi Monday morning at 11:30 for a press conference/rally to demand that ICE #FreeIvan and allows him to be reunited with his husband. On January 31, Jose “Ivan” Nuñez was attending his marriage interview at USCIS with his husband Paul fully expecting to be in and out of the office. Paul and Ivan are in love and have been married since April 9th, 2016. What should have been a dream come true ended in a nightmare. In the middle of his interview ICE agents stormed into the interview and handcuffed him without warning. We believe that love has no borders and ask you to join us in demanding that ICE free Ivan from detention so he may be reunited with his husband. If Ivan was to be deported back to Mexico, Ivan’s life would be in jeopardy due to his sexuality. His sister, who is also queer, is currently in hiding with her partner back home and close friends of the family have been severely assaulted for their sexual orientation. As of January 13th, USCIS has deemed Ivan and Paul’s marriage petition valid and Ivan has passed his Reasonable Fear interview, meaning there is no reason why he should still be in detention.

Chester County eighth-graders tried redistricting PA for a class project. Their thoughts? It's actually 'not very difficult.'

150 N 6th Street

How difficult is it to redistrict Pennsylvania? 'Not very,' say area eighth-graders
Viewed from a distance, Westtown School in Chester County, Pennsylvania seems like precisely the place you'd expect a conversation on redistricting and gerrymandering. The Quaker private school sits at the juncture of two especially contorted congressional districts - the 6th and 7th - and counts among its core values "peace and justice in community and in the world."

Join Amanda Feifer, author of Ferment Your Vegetables and the blog Phickle, to learn all you ever wanted to know about vegetable fermentation. In this snack-filled workshop, Amanda will cover the basics of both salted and brined fermented vegetables, discussing their benefits and the inherent safety of the process while sharing some tips and tricks. All participants will go home with handmade pickle weights by ceramic artist Miki Palchick, as well as ready-to-ferment jars of pickled and brined vegetables.
