Chester County eighth-graders tried redistricting PA for a class project. Their thoughts? It's actually 'not very difficult.'

150 N 6th Street

How difficult is it to redistrict Pennsylvania? 'Not very,' say area eighth-graders
Viewed from a distance, Westtown School in Chester County, Pennsylvania seems like precisely the place you'd expect a conversation on redistricting and gerrymandering. The Quaker private school sits at the juncture of two especially contorted congressional districts - the 6th and 7th - and counts among its core values "peace and justice in community and in the world."

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today’s post comes fr...

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today’s post comes from the Allegheny National Forest (ANF), Pennsylvania’s only National Forest. This photograph was taken in August 1926 and shows two lovers on the trail to Heart’s Content near Warren, PA. At this site in particular, the U.S. Forest Service conducted a series of experiments and ecological studies that focused on developing new methods to protect America’s beautiful wealth of land. A few examples of the new sustainability concepts introduced at ANF in the 1920s included preserving seeds for future growth, maintaining watersheds, and guarding wildlife habitats. The purpose of this mission was to create a long lasting and healthy forest, one that generations to come could all explore and enjoy. So on this day dedicated to love, show your affection to not only the people you care about, but the places you appreciate too! This post was written by Megan Kelly, Research and Writing Intern at the National Archives at Philadelphia. #happyvalentinesday #valentine #valentinesday #alleghenynationalforest #ANF #forest #love #hisory #archives Citation: Photograph from Heart's Content Trail; Northeastern Forest Experiment Station, Timber Management Research Station; RG095 U.S. Forest Service; National Archives at Philadelphia (NAID: 28208828) and (HMS ID/Record Entry ID: PH-3926).
