Brother Issa not only sells his own beautiful artisanal jewelry, but he also gave back to his West Philly community in a big way by participating as a key business stakeholder in our Walnut Hill Neighborhood Plan Update in 2016. He is story #25 in our 52 Stories about 52nd series; read on to learn more about him! A Revolutionary Artisan Brother Issa has been a vendor of vision for over 40 years. His kiosk is filled with treasures from the African Diaspora as well as handmade artisan metal jewelry that he crafts himself. His Kiosk is located in front of retailer Babe’s at 110 South 52nd St., and you can usually find his space by following the music. The Ojays, Ohio Players, and Teddy Pendergrass are often heard emanating from the multitude of fragrant oils, incense, portraits of activists, and jewelry. He has owned physical stores in both Center City Philly and in Atlanta, and he has sold art on 52nd St. for over 15 years. Brother Issa takes pride in not only being an artisan but also a master teacher. He is keen on passing on his artisan skills to the next generation. If you’d like to learn more about his process, his politics, and his art, please visit his kiosk!

Congrats to our friends and partners from Community Solutions CDC on this great write-up about their Father's Day Block Party tomorrow! Go check it out if you can, they have lots of fun stuff in store. And Happy Father's Day in advance to all the dads in the community!

How does West Philly celebrate Father's Day? With a 1,000-person block party
West Philly likes block parties. A lot. Two years ago, it ranked first for the Philadelphia neighborhood with the most block parties in the entire city. So naturally, warm weather holidays often mean more of the same: outdoor fun featuring barbecues, bouncy castles, the closing of streets and re-routing of SEPTA buses.
