40 small ways to make Philly a better place
In today's world, it can be easy to feel either under- or overwhelmed-or both-by all the good and bad that's happening around us. But before you throw up your hands and toss in the towel, consider the words of Martin Luther King, Jr.: "If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."

A great and timely piece about the Overbrook Education Center.

Can Philadelphia solve its pollution problems without support from Washington?
The center sits on the site of a former quarry that had become a dumping site. Fifteen years ago its neighbors turned it into a community center focused on environmental education. Jerome Shabazz is the head and heart of the organization. The site has an orchard, a greenhouse, and murals.

Neighbors, did you know that there are ZERO buildings in Cobbs Creek that are registered historic by the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia? By designating buildings on a historic register we could be protecting them from future demolition or destruction by developers but more importantly we could help to secure the look and feel of our mostly residential neighborhood. If historic preservation is of interest to you there is a Historic Preservation Task Force meeting at 6:30 on January 18th at The Enterprise Center. Please see the comments for more details.
