MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR ANTHONY LAZORKO June 5, 1935 – August 17, 2017 A Renaissance man, a dearly loved husband, father, brother and friend, Anthony Lazorko Jr., age 82, passed away on August 17, 2017, in New Mexico. We now picture Tony having conversations in heaven with Benjamin Franklin, sharing a Jack Daniels with Thomas Jefferson, and exploring the great beyond with wanderlust partner and love of his life, wife Marge. An artist known for his woodcut prints of the American West, Tony was also a painter, graphic designer and photographer. He was a great storyteller with an amazing mind and memory for detail. A magnet for friends, he welcomed diversity of ideas and lifestyle. He was a lifelong progressive with deep concern for the poor and disenfranchised. Tony attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA. After retiring from his job as Art Director of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, he began making prints again. His work has been included in recent exhibitions at El Paso Museum of Art, El Paso, TX; Dempsey Arts Center, Auburn, AL; Berkeley Arts Center, Berkeley CA; and International Print Center New York, New York, NY. His work is held by the New Jersey State Art Museum, Trenton, NJ. Lancaster Avenue - West Philadelphia, PA adde...

In November 2015, PEC started the Men’s Coffee Talks as part of the Neighborhood Advisory Committee’s Outreach Initiative. One goal was to connect the men that gathered in the area near my office to addiction-recovery services and local job opportunities. And fortunately, we were able to successfully make those connections for several of the men. However, over the last two years, we’ve gone further. Together, we’ve developed an ongoing recovery partnership with S.T.O.P. - Sobriety Through Outpatient - to support sober community interventions. We were able to also build a network - to help men find local jobs, vocational trainings, apprenticeships and supportive services. We have also organized several community initiatives and special events for men. On June 27th, we organized a Men’s Wellness Fair to highlight National Testing Day. Over two hundred men participated in the workshops, health screenings and diagnostic testing on at least 2 of 5 key health factors (glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, & HIV status). Overall, the men’s coffee talks developed into more of a networking collaborative between professionals, retirees and local men living in the area. The group continues to grow and has engaged guys of all ages, ethnicities and religions. We’ve created a safe space for men to share resources, get information and get support. The vibe of the coffee talk is reminiscent to that of a classic barber shop – where men from all walks of life congregate on equal footing. Every month we have guest speakers and offer needed resources. It is perhaps even more important that each month we gather as Men and leave as brothers. The Men’s coffee talk will happen this month on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Bank, 3750 Lancaster Ave (11am). Men in the neighborhood have met for 2 years, supporting one another’s efforts to improve their lives. Join us Nov. 14th!
