Young Heroes Outreach Begins Action Phase

NLM’s year-long Young Heroes Outreach Program, which takes the Museum’s lessons on civic leadership directly into schools, is now entering the phase when the students choose a social issue that matters to them and plan Action Steps to address that issue. Students in the seventeen schools NLM currently serves have been brainstorming and researching issues for the past several weeks. Their breadth of knowledge and commitment is truly impressive. The students have been considering  a wide range of topics from bullying to gerrymandering. The following seven schools have made their decisions. A formal presentation of each school’s social issue will take place at our annual Young Heroes Impact Celebration on June 2 at Girard College. Watch for event information on this website.

Beloved South Street Landmark To Be Demolished And Rebuilt
The demolition of the corner property at 600 S. Second Street has historic preservationists further calling into question the city's commitment to its built heritage. The three-and-a-half story brick building, the longtime location of popular Queen Village restaurant Bridget Foy's, was constructed between 1811 and 1820 and is listed as a contributing building in the National Register of Historic Places' Southwark Historic District.
