Showers are currently moving into the area from the west. Temperatures will remain warm enough for rain but some snow is likely to mix in for the Poconos and extreme northwest New Jersey. Rain and snow showers should move out of the area by mid afternoon. Winds will pick up as showers move through and will remain blustery through the evening with lows in the mid 30s throughout much of the region and near 30 for the Poconos and northern New Jersey.

Good things come in trees. As many of you know, East Point Breeze Neighbors participates in the PHS : Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's Street Tree planting twice a year, in November and in April. This Saturday, April 21, is the day! We, along with our friends at Newbold CDC and West Passyunk Neighbors have a total of 25 trees to stick in the ground, including 10 in the EPBN service area. We need a few more able-bodied neighbors to help dig some pits and plant some trees. If you can volunteer on Saturday morning (around 9:30am), comment here, PM us or email clean@epbneighbors.org. BONUS POINTS if you happen to have a heavy-duty digging shovel, a pick-ax or a push broom that you can bring along! This is a regular Tree Party, and as a great poet once said: After the Party is the Afterparty! All volunteers are invited for pizza and beer post-trees at Brewery ARS! NOTE - our newest neighborhood Tree-Tenders group, Point Breeze Tree Tenders is also planting trees on 21 April. Their "zone" is WEST of 18th street, so if you live closer to that side of the Breeze, give them a shout -With their trees added, we're up to almost FORTY NEW TREES! The annual 17th Police District Advisory Council Banquet is coming up on Saturday, May 19th at 7pm! The banquet supports programming for the district, which includes the Blue Ribbon Awards, honoring officers each month who have meade steller contributions to the community. The PDAC also provides annual scholarships for local teens, hosts community block parties, and feeds officers and those in need during the holidays. The banquet will include dinner, an open bar, and entertainment from local artists. It's a great time and supports a great cause! Quite warm for all areas away from the immediate coast today, with even a record high temperature set at Allentown, PA (87 degrees!). A cold front though will settle south across our area during tonight, bringing much colder air with it along with developing low clouds and some light rain or drizzle. Have you had a chance to enjoy the warm weather yet? If not, today is your last chance for a while! A cold front will sink south later today. Highs today are forecast to be in the 70s and 80s, but by tomorrow, it will be around 30 degrees lower! For those of you whose outdoor plans include time near the ocean, please keep in mind that water temperatures on the ocean and bays remain quite cold. Those participating in water activities should take care not to enter the water. Hypothermia, exhaustion, and unconsciousness can occur in less than one hour.

Good afternoon everyone. With the warmer weather we're expecting in the next couple days, many people will want to head to the beach. While the air temperature will be warm, it is important to remember that the water temperatures in the Atlantic and Delaware Bay are still only in the 40s. At these temperatures, hypothermia can begin in as little as 5 minutes without proper attire. If you're heading to the beach in the next couple days, it is best to stay out of the water.
