An update to the severe thunderstorm forecast today. Thunderstorms are likely early this afternoon into this evening across our region starting from west to east. Thunderstorm coverage is likely further south towards Delmarva than it was earlier this morning. There are two main hazards with these storms: flash flooding and damaging winds. Flash flooding: Any thunderstorms today will be capable of producing very heavy rain which could lead to flash flooding. The highest risk for flash flooding is along the I-95 corridor in southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey where a flash flood watch is in effect. Urban areas and other areas with poor drainage are especially vulnerable to flash flooding. Damaging Winds: Some of the storms could be severe capable of producing damaging winds through much of the forecast area, though the highest risk for this threat is along and near the I-95 Corridor. For the latest detailed forecast and radar imagery for your location, visit www.weather.gov/phi.

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone! We will have one more hot and muggy day today. Thunderstorms are possible primarily this afternoon into this evening across our region. There are two main hazards that we are concerned about with these storms: flash flooding and damaging winds. Damaging Winds: Some of the storms could be severe capable of producing damaging winds. The highest risk for this threat is in central and northern New Jersey. Once we get to this evening, a cold front will be moving through the region leading to cooler and much less humid conditions. A cold front is expected to move through the region late Tuesday bringing much more widespread showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. Happy Tuesday all! We are looking at a quiet forecast today with temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s. If you are headed to the beach, note that there is moderate risk for dangerous rip currents along the Delaware and New Jersey shores. Wave heights from 2-4 feet with longer periods due in part to Tropical Storm Chris off the North Carolina Coast will likely develop stronger rip currents. Know the signs to help spot dangerous rip currents and enjoy a safe day at the beach.
