At the Mann Center soon, you'll be able to feel the death-chill of Harry Potter's dementors on the back of your neck as a live orchestra plays the John Williams score. On another night, you could happen upon a fresh Curtis Institute of Music graduate with a big piano personality in Gershwin.

Population growth slowed in most cities of more than a million people, except San Antonio and Philadelphia.

Quest for Affordable Housing Drives People Away From the Coasts
The high cost of housing seemed to sap Americans' taste for coastal cities last year as cities in Texas and Arizona gained more population than New York City or Los Angeles for the first time in a decade, according to census population estimates released today.

Read Dracula in real time.* May 24. Everybody wants Lucy. On this date in Dracula, Lucy Westenra writes to her friend Mina Murray about the three men who have proposed marriage to her . . . all on the same day! Dr John Seward, “the lunatic-asylum man, with the strong jaw and the good forehead,” was first. Lucy turned him down. Next was Mr. Quincey P. Morris, “the American from Texas,” whose proposal included comparing Lucy to a horse in harness with him. She turned that one down. Lastly, Arthur Holmwood, the polished, soon-to-be Lord, came in and swept Lucy off her feet. Obviously, she said yes to Arthur, but Lucy did wonder to her friend, “Why can’t they let a girl marry three men?” *The novel, Dracula, is comprised of journal entries and letters, all dated, so throughout the year, we’ll be posting a day-by-day account of the plot of Dracula. Follow along with your own reading and feel free to leave comments below (no spoilers for those who may be reading for the first time).

92nd ANNUAL solo exhibitions: Julie Anne Greenberg: Considerable Uncertainty Remains Jacob Koestler: Copy of a Copy Daniel W. Coburn: Becoming a Specter are on view through August 4, 2018. I am inspired by ideas of the infinite in relation to sublime subjects like hurricanes and other weather patterns. The patterns allow me to closely examine a subject that is so much larger and powerful than myself. Essentially, the act of printing the same patterns over and over again ties in to my exploration of natural phenomena. As humans, we can try to predict and understand these storms, however we will always fall short due to our own limitations….As I print, cut, and stare, I find myself sitting in the middle of each disturbance, rearranging pieces that no longer fit together. - Julie Anne Greenberg Image: Julie Anne Greenberg, System XV Nicole: “Defied Forecasts by Steadily Organizing”, 2018, Screenprint with paint and pigment on cut and reassembled paper on built panel http://printcenter.org/100/92nd-solo-shows/

    Recap: 2017 Winter in Wonderland
Many children under our care do not live with their families and may not have been afforded special holidays that most children get to experience during the season. With the understanding that visitation and time together supports parent-child relationships as well as eases the pain of separation, our event seeks to bring families together under proper supervision and provide our children with a memorable and positive holiday experience.
