Kudos to Cop, 1st Dist, in white suv 3:20 am Mon. 6/18, 1800 Mifflin St, 19145, stopped senior citizen as she was entering her home w/a bucket of gravel from street paving to fill around her tree. "Excuse me, Miss, what are you going to do with that bucket of gravel, asks he", "Why, I'm going to place it around my tree" says she. The truck tore up the pavement digging up the street, there's grass growing, neighbors don't like it, dogs are pissing in it', so I"m going to put gravel to discourage it'... "As long as you're using it on City Property" says he. This is a scene from a Keystone Kop episode, Certainly, taking property from...egad!...the city..that doesn't belong to you should be punishable accordingly. Is there cause for real concern here? At the same moment as the cop stopped to give her the business, across the street, a guy in long dreadlocks and looking very unkempt was shining a light into cars looking for something.
Gee, Officer K, I hope you drilled him on why he was shining a light into cars that early in the morning.
While you're on intense patrol, be on the lookout please for the culprit that broke into the 2 homes in the 1800 block of S.19th Street and stole real items of importance to city dwellers. Those crimes have never been solved although it's been said that it's a very local culprit. Not as important as thievery from the city, I agree, nevertheless...

About Pennsport

Hi Pennsport, My wife and I are looking to buy a home in the 400 block of Moore St. area. In our research, though, we've noticed that in the past month there have been 2 shootings near that area and at least 2 more within a 15 min walk. Up to May though it seems Pennsport was relatively quiet. Trulia lists the crime as low relative to Philadelphia and other sites also claim crime in the area isn't bad.

We'd like some insider thoughts; homes in Philadelphia are getting up there in price and if possible I'd like to avoid a costly mistake. I look forward to getting some inside perspective.

  • Steven Buller Beer Jesus

You don’t have to worry, a vast majority of the shootings have to deal with street beefs, they also are HIGHLY LIKELY to be targeted crimes. The average joe doesn’t get involved in shootings.

  • I'm looking to sell my house on moyamensing closer to McKean. We haven't posted the house yet but if you are interested in let me know.

Basic assault , folks getting in your face does not get action. And lots of changes. The dynamics of the area has changed to under 30 crowd moving who has less respect for trash rules ( trash out 2-5 days earlier. More bike riders on sidewalks ( 10 kids under 6 months old in the area) . More cars not even doing stops. May 14 th, there were an incident near 2nd and Monroe around 1 pm and no one called the police . Sorry- and good folks I have known have moved.
I reccomw d Bella Vista area. Great neighborhood association ( Q.v. only cares about zoning, glossy mags with irreverent articles and education.- )
Sorry I just do not feel it is a good area anymore. I wish I could move but my mortgage is too low.

Parking

Is there anywhere in Philly to securely park a small 10" moving truck overnight?

  • From the sounds of it, you want to pay an indoor garage to do so. there are two in the 1500 block of Latimer that I know of, plenty of others in town too.
