Roger de La Fresnaye was born this day in 188...

Roger de La Fresnaye was born this day in 1885. Growing up in Le Mans and receiving his art education in Paris, de La Fresnaye was later a member of the Section d’Or artist group from 1912 to 1914. Along with his compatriots, he transformed the cubism of Picasso and Braque into something more coloristic and lyrical, doing much to popularize the movement prior to World War I. After contracting tuberculosis during his wartime service, his health began a steady decline, leading to an early death in 1925 at the age of 40. In his final years, he turned away from the avant-garde and became an influential advocate of traditional realism. #SeeingtheBarnes 🎨 Roger de La Fresnaye. “Married Life,” 1913
