Suspect arrested after Philadelphia police chase, rooftop arrest identified

Luis Rivera-Ortiz, 25, of the 3700 block of Percy Street, was the man who rammed a police car with a van and tried to make a fast getaway, police say. He is charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of an Instrument of Crime and related offenses.

Rivera-Ortiz was being sought on an active arrest warrant on Wednesday evening. The incident began with Rivera-Ortiz ramming an unmarked police car at 9th and Lehigh streets.

He then drove back onto the Boulevard where he was nearly struck by an oncoming vehicle. Finally, he pulled into a parking lot in the 5300 block of 5th Street and made a run for it with foot patrols in pursuit.

1:30 p.m.: Tracey McKinney, 45, of the 3300 block of Goodman Street in Franklinville, was found on the 1300 block of West Erie Avenue in Franklinville with gunshot wounds to his back, an arm, and a leg. He was taken to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead at 3:31 p.m.

10 p.m.: Bicycle officers in South Philadelphia heard gunshots and found a 61-year-old man shot in the groin and sitting on a stoop on the 2200 block of South Eighth Street. He was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition.

11 p.m.: A 29-year-old man was shot in the shoulder while walking on the 2500 block of Federal Street, Grays Ferry. He was in stable condition at Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center. Police found ballistics evidence in front of a rowhouse that has been used in the filming of Creed II.

11:15 p.m.: A 28-year-old man was shot in the face on the 4200 block of Lancaster Avenue in Powelton. He was taken to Penn-Presbyterian, where he was in stable condition.

3:40 a.m. A 43-year-old man was shot in a leg in West Philadelphia. He said he had just parked his car on the 5800 block of Pine Street and was walking home when three men announced a stickup. He was in stable condition at Penn-Presbyterian.

Thurman George, 59, of the 3900 block of North 10th Street, pleaded guilty Wednesday to fraud by an election officer, a third-degree felony, before Judge Scott DiClaudio.
