Philadelphia Auto Show: As sales dip, automakers will showcase technology
Dropping from 17.5 million units in 2016 to 17.2 million in 2017 is not causing a panic among automakers. Technological advances mean buyers still have plenty of reasons to check out the Philadelphia Auto Show. - Scott Sturgis, Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News

Stick to Your Job Pictured here is a poster ...

Stick to Your Job Pictured here is a poster which encouraged employees to “stick to your job,” which encouraged workers not to drift from job to job because their dedicated work was vital to the war effort. This poster was produced by the United States Department of Labor and, like many other propaganda posters, was distributed to American factories in order to encourage workers to maximize efficiency for the war effort. Want to learn more about our holdings related to World War I and more? Check out our Guide to World War One holdings: https://www.archives.gov/philadelphia/finding-aids/wwi-guide. Feel free to consult our online catalog (www.catalog.archives.gov) and make an appointment to view our holdings at the National Archives at Philadelphia by calling (215) 305-2044 or emailing philadelphia.archives@nara.gov. Also feel free to check out other National Archives resources related to World War I here: https://www.archives.gov/topics/wwi#event-/timeline/item/archduke-assassination. Join us for Citizen Archivist Week of Service...

Join us for Citizen Archivist Week of Service! In the spirit of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, join us January 15-19, 2018 for a week-long citizen archivist challenge. Our goal is to tag or transcribe 2,018 pages in the National Archives Catalog during Citizen Archivist Week of Service. Can you help us meet this challenge? Get started by visiting the Citizen Archivist Dashboard beginning January 15. During that week, we’ll have a special expanded missions session and lots of featured records waiting to be transcribed. For our new volunteers, you’ll also find instructions on how to create an account and get started. You can help us unlock history by tagging and transcribing primary source documents in the National Archives Catalog. As you add tags or transcriptions to these records, those words are added to our Catalog – improving search results, and making our records more discoverable online. The added benefit is that we’re unlocking the sometimes difficult to read text for all to understand. We like to say that as we tag and transcribe, we are unlocking history. Transcribe and tag some of our holdings today, a handful of which are linked to below: The Indictment of Samuel Maccubbin involved in the Baltimore 'Riot' of 1861: https://catalog.archives.gov/id/278869 Deposition of John Snyder: https://catalog.archives.gov/id/18545806 Information provided by Lester Matz and John C. Childs filed in the U.S. Attorneys' Records on Spiro T. Agnew: https://catalog.archives.gov/id/279167 Complaint Against the Prince Edward County School Board of Virginia: https://catalog.archives.gov/id/279098 Fire Island National Seashore: A Proposal: https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40304849 History of Langley Air Field, Inception to March 1, 1935: https://catalog.archives.gov/id/66956741 John B. “My story being done, . . . She swore, in faith ‘twas strange, ‘twas passing strange.” – OTHELLO, Act One, Scene 3 Take a deep dive into the world of PASSING STRANGE in Walter Bilderback's (Production Dramaturg and Literary Manager) Open Stages blog post. #WilmaPassingStrange is now playing through February 18.

    OPEN STAGE ONLINE: PASSING STRANGE
by Walter Bilderback "My story being done, . . . She swore, in faith 'twas strange, 'twas passing strange." - Othello, Act One, Scene 3 Passing Strange is, first and foremost, a coming of age story. Although it shares some moments with Stew's real life, it is not autobiographical.
