It's time to resume our meetings. However our March meeting will not be at our regular meeting place. BHS is going on a field trip to Historical Society of Frankford. Read the event listing for all details.
On Wednesday, March 14th The Bridesburg Historical Society will partner with the Frankford Historical Society at the Frankford Historical headquarters on Orthodox Street to view a special exhibit on the Frankford Yellow Jackets which were the forerunners of the Philadelphia Eagles as well as viewing artifacts related to Bridesburg. Anyone interested in attending should meet at 6:30 p.m. in St. John Cantius parking lot if a ride is needed. Anyone driving themselves can park in The Friends School parking lot across from the Frankford Historical Society. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm. All are invited . There is no admission cost.
The Bridesburg "Point-no-point" Park plans are history in the making. If you missed prior meetings, catch up on current events at DRCC's web page. --Mike Finn
I attended the meeting concerning the current planning stage of the new park to be located where Orthodox meets the Delaware River. Many of us would like this park to be named Point-No-Point Park. Representatives from Langan Engineering asked about this name. Wikipedia has a good article about the name of this area in colonial times. Hello! Do you know who administers the cemetery next to the old All Saints Church? I have ancestors buried there (Stegmenn, Keller, Gensheimer, Williman) and I'd love to go in and visit their graves. The last time I was in Philly though, the gate was locked. I wasn't sure if I should call the SJC parish office or the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery office next time I'm in town.
Thanks for the beautiful night at Pennsbury Manor.
