Another fantastic Comcast Cares Day 2018 at Adaire! brought out hundreds of Adaire community volunteers, including many parents, teachers, staff, Friends of Adaire, neighbors, and past-present-future students! Together, we gave the school many fresh coats of bright paint, from classrooms to the gym/cafeteria to doorways to the basketball court to a new trail of circles looping around the schoolyard. Members of the Temple Football team scrubbed and painted the gym/cafeteria, while the Philadelphia 76ers Dunk Squad and Dancers hung out with kids. Playworks Pennsylvania & Delaware Valley got kids moving and having fun at Hetzell's field, while Northern Liberties Nannies watched young ones in the auditorium. We had a great day under a brilliant sun, and together we leveraged Comcast's investment along with our own community power for a great one-day boost to Adaire!

Huge, huge THANKS to our host PlayArts for last week's amazing Happy Hour Fundraiser, and for these great pics from talented photog Nicole Maersch Eggerts! We are thrilled to report we raised more than $750 to help launch our Annual Fund Campaign, which we're targeting for recess at Adaire next year, specifically for our Friends of Adaire investment in the great Playworks Pennsylvania & Delaware Valley program! Thanks to FoA President Joe McAteer, who went above & beyond to provide the libations this time, and to everyone who bought our nice FoA & The Dominic Fuscia Team-branded pint glasses! While we're at it, thanks to Adaire Community Partnership Coordinator Sasha Best, who led the card/math games that evening, and Math Specialist Emily McGee, who discussed how math is taught at Adaire. Want to give to the Friends of Adaire Annual Fund but haven't had the chance yet? Here's the link: https://donorbox.org/annual-fund-2018-2019

Friends of Adaire shared Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers...

Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers is an Adaire partner who works with our Kindergarteners each week. They are offering Adaire families a special discount to attend their latest live dance performances! An Adaire parent who went last year found it "beautiful, strong, athletic and provoked an important conversation between me and my son who also attended." FAITH PROJECT/THE DOOR “stunning…profoundly moving” – HuffPost http://princetheater.org/events/kyld-the-door/ Informed by KYL/D’s engagements with community practitioners of diverse spiritual outlooks, THE DOOR investigates the role of movement in nourishing our beliefs about meaning and mystery. This world premiere performance features stunning projections by visionary multimedia designer Jared Mezzocchi. The concert also includes the critically acclaimed Dedication, a solo described as “a nuanced distillation of sorrow” (New York Times). All choreography by Kun-Yang Lin. Performance Dates: Thur. Adaire K-8 School celebrated the 17th annual National Education Association Read Across America Day with a parade of special guest readers from the community, including a blitz of Temple Football team members and Council President Darrell L. Clarke! After a short breakfast, parents, community members, and Temple football players fanned out to Adaire's classrooms to read Dr. Seuss books! Thanks to Renee Dicarlo, a Kindergarten parent, for organizing Adaire's event this year, and thanks to all the volunteers who came out to help spark a love of reading and wearing silly hats in Adaire students!

We had a great time today taking our usual indoor Winter Story Hour outside into the Adaire schoolyard, because it certainly didn't feel like winter out there today! The amazing Ms. Chris managed to hold the kids' attention reading even amid the frenzy of kids careening all around the playground area ... for a little bit! We had tons of fun and enjoyed the sun. It's always hard to keep the event going through the surprisingly warm days of late winter, but we did today! So we're still on for next week, probably back indoors in the Adaire library!

Friends of Adaire added an event.

For the 4th year, Friends of Adaire are thrilled to be hosting a Winter Story Hour in the Adaire library, this year on Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m., starting Tues., Jan. 9th. Co-hosted by FoA founder/board member Chris Morrissey Grubb and Mary Stephan and Natali Jones, this weekly event provides another free option for families with young kids in the witching hour after nap and before the end of the work day. Enter through the visitor's entrance on Thompson St. near Earl, up the stairs to the library. We'll start off with circle-time reading, singing, and movement, followed up by crafts. All ages are welcome, though activities are primarily designed for ages 2-5. This event series will continue as long as the cold weather does; in past years, we've stopped as early as the end of February and as late as the end of March. But when the weather's nice enough for the kids to be outside playing in the schoolyard, we'll end the indoor Story Hour.
