Today I met with industry leaders from Bridesburg and Port Richmond to reach agreement about how to handle the problem of short dumping along this industrial corridor of the district. Most of the time short dumpers are small contractors or residents who don’t want to take trash and debris to a City Sanitation Center or privately owned dumps. Instead of being good neighbors, they leave piles of trash, mattresses, tires, and shopping carts in front of businesses and in neighborhoods. If you see someone illegally dumping trash or debris, try to write down their license plate and report the location to my office!

Ready to lead Philly into the future? Block captains make neighborhoods stronger, which is why I'm holding a Block Captain Resource Fair this Saturday. If you're already a block captain, want to be one, or even if you're just curious, come check it out. The Block Captain Boot Camp will take place this Saturday, May 5th at 9am at Lincoln High School (3201 Ryan Avenue). I hope to see you there.

Your Block, Our Future - Become a Block Captain
Does your block have a block captain? Many blocks, including many in Northeast Philly, don't. Block captains are important leaders in our community, and increasing the number of block captains would be a big help to our neighborhoods. Although you may have never considered the possibility, you could be your block's next block captain.

Don't let the chilly weather fool you: it's almost prom season. This can be a stressful time of year for young people in our community who's families struggle to afford prom attire. That's why I'm supporting Catholic Community Services-CCS Strengthening Families, Uniting Communities Catholic Community Service's Prom Drive. You can drop off new and gently used gowns, dresses, suits, shoes, shirts, ties, jewelry, and purses for males and females now through April 20th at my Tacony office - 6730 Torresdale Avenue. Let's show our young people that their community cares for them.

The new ShopRite of Bridge & Harbison opens TOMORROW! This new supermarket is bringing jobs and much needed access to healthy food to our community. It was an honor to attend a luncheon today celebrating the opening of the new store. Congratulations to the Ammons Family and their staff for this big accomplishment.
