Join the Philadelphia Youth Commission and the Millennial Advisory Commission Thursday, March 22 for a special #PHLYouthTalks conversation about the issue of gun violence in Philadelphia and how we can work together to address this epidemic. This youth-led event will build on the growing national movement to reduce gun violence and ensure that young people can learn and grow in safe spaces. When: Thursday, March 22, 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Where: South Philadelphia High School, 2101 S Broad St. Who: Students, teachers, school administrators, parents, and elected officials are all encouraged to attend. This event is free. Sign up: PHLYouthTalksGunViolence.eventbrite.com About: This event will open with a Gun Laws 101 presentation to educate attendees about local, state and federal gun laws and opportunities for advocacy. Following this session, the #PHLYouthTalk will break out into workshops that will seek youth voices to address these urgent questions: Safe Spaces How are we connecting employment opportunities and afterschool/out-of-School time programming to more youth in need? How does violence prevention fit into this conversation? Mentorship How should we build and support credible mentors for violence intervention and prevention? Trauma How can we better address trauma in young people’s lives that can stem from and/or lead to violence? The event will feature multiple stations where youth can tell their story throughout the event, in written, artistic, visual or digital form. This is a critical time for young people to be heard, across the city and across our country. We hope you will join us for this important conversation.

Due to extremely cold temperatures over the last week, Juniata Park Academy, located at 801 E. Hunting Park Avenue, will be closed on Monday, January 8, 2018 because of frozen pipes that have impacted the heating system. All after-school activities at Juniata Park Academy including all athletic programs and professional development sessions scheduled for Monday are canceled as well. School staff is to report to the Kensington CAPA High School, located at 1901 N. Front Street. #PHLed
On Thursday, January 4th from 1pm to 6pm, The School District of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Housing Authority will hold a joint job fair. The job fair will include information sessions for the School District’s instructional support, climate, food services, transportation, facilities, and maintenance positions. James Rhoads Elementary School has been closed due to a water main break today, Tuesday, December 19. All students are being relocated to Parkway West High School/MYA at 4725 Fairmount Ave. Updates regarding dismissal will be made available later today. #PHLed
