    Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia
As a form of cinematic activism, Philadelphia (1993) attempted to reform the public understanding of AIDS in a time when ignorance and fear of the disease fueled prejudice and hate. The film is not merely set in the city of its title, but in a large part, the people of Philadelphia performed it.

Bicycle signals have been installed at 16th and Market and 20th and JFK.

1500 Market – SEPTA is installing elevators and doing waterproofing work and the north side of Market St. The City is working with SEPTA to coordinate pedestrian and bicycle access during each phase of construction.

We attended the Market-JFK Vision Zero Safety Project Steering Committee earlier this month. The meeting was convened by Philadelphia's Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems, and included major property owners and stakeholders along the Market and JFK corridors. We learned a lot about the timeline of the project and what's coming with respect to education and enforcement.

One of my new go-to KAs is the cardamom-sugared lovely at Suraya (1528 Frankford Ave.), the gorgeous Lebanese café-market, bakery, and restaurant in Fishtown, which right now is making some of the city’s most beautiful pastries — French, but with a Levantine twist.

ICI Macarons & Café (230 Arch St.) in Old City is a hidden gem — they do fine croissants, as well as some excellent KAs.

The Kettle Black (631 N. Second St.) in Northern Liberties makes its standard croissants with Amish butter and has an airy vegan version that has seriously whirling layers inside. The French-owned J’Aime in the Gayborhood (212 S. 12th St.) is also legit.

Philly's dining-with-a-view scene will be expanding by two in coming weeks. I rode the elevators for the details. Also this week, I share word of a pan-Asian standout in Chinatown, return to a Rittenhouse favorite, and tip you to what might be Philly's most decorated burger. Seating has been removed from the Wawa at Broad and Walnut

In the last few years, the convenience store has set up chairs in its new locations at 19th and Market, in Delaware County and in Washington D.C. And in the new flagship Wawa — to be built near Independence Mall around Thanksgiving — there are plans for “cafe seating” and “comfortable couches.”
