SEPTA Spruces Up The Underground With Downtown Link
The future is looking bright and shiny for SEPTA's dingy underground lair. Dubbed "Downtown Link," the project is essentially a contemporary rebranding of Center City's weather-protected underground pedestrian concourse network. If you haven't already, you will soon see large signs for this directional and wayfinding system on the walls of transit stations and the many passages interconnecting those stations throughout Center City.

A Reminder from SEPTA About Medicare Card Pha...

A Reminder from SEPTA About Medicare Card Phase-Out Effective January 16 Reduced Fare Card Registration Outreach Schedule Information With most Senior Citizens and Riders with Disabilities who previously used Medicare Cards now transitioning to the new SEPTA Key Photo ID Cards, SEPTA is reminding Senior and Reduced Fare customers that Medicare and Railroad Retirement Cards will no longer be accepted for free- and reduced-fare rides beginning Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Riders with disabilities, who have not previously registered with SEPTA for the Reduced Transit Fare Program for Persons with Disabilities are urged to do so as soon as possible. After January 16, the only forms of identification that will be accepted for half-fare service on all SEPTA Routes will be: SEPTA Key Reduced Fare Card Paper Pennsylvania Reduced Transit Fare ID Card (green card) Because Reduced Fare Key Cards can be loaded with funds and require verification of medical documentation, Reduced Fare applications must be submitted in person at SEPTA Headquarters, 1234 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107 or at the Accessible Travel Center (Room 108) in Suburban Station, Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Since mid-December, when SEPTA announced the extension of the Medicare Card phase-out deadline to January 16, 2018, customers have been registering for Reduced Fare Key cards in record numbers. To assist those remaining customers who have not registered for the SEPTA Key Reduced Fare Card – particularly those who do not have a paper Pennsylvania Reduced Transit Fare ID Card or are infrequent riders who may not be aware of the change – SEPTA is holding Reduced Fare Application and Outreach events in each County from mid-January through the end of February. Information on the Reduced Fare Card, including the application process, is available on SEPTA’s website at: http://www.septa.org/key/updates/2017-reduced-fare-card.html. SEPTA strongly recommends interested and eligible applicants review this information prior to attending one of the registration events. A schedule of reduced fare outreach events is also available at http://www.septa.org/key/updates/2017-reduced-fare-card.html. While SEPTA Key Senior Photo ID Card applications will also be accepted, the purpose of these registration events is to take photographs and process applications for the SEPTA Key Reduced Fare Cards. Senior Key Card Registration Continues at Legislative Offices Seniors interested in signing up for the SEPTA Key Card can continue to do so at participating Legislative Offices or at SEPTA Headquarters, 1234 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107. Please visit http://www.septa.org/fares/discount/seniors-ride-free-info.html for more information or questions about the SEPTA Key Senior Photo ID program. After January 16, 2018… Seniors will be able to continue to travel for free on all SEPTA Transit Routes ($1.00 on Regional Rail within Pennsylvania) using any of the following three proofs of age: · SEPTA Key Senior Photo ID cards · Paper Pennsylvania Senior Citizen Transit ID Cards (blue and yellow cards) · Pennsylvania Drivers’ License and Non-Drivers’ License Photo IDs with magnetic strips* *Please Note – In mid-June 2017, PennDOT began issuing new Licenses and Photo IDs that do not have a magnetic strip and are not compatible with the SEPTA Key system.
