Bitter cold sparks continuing Philly efforts to shelter homeless

Holloman’s office is also extending hours at a warming site at Aramingo and Lehigh avenues in Kensington, the heart of the city’s opioid epidemic.

Bitter cold sparks continuing Philly efforts to shelter homeless
With bone-chilling temperatures in the weekend forecast, Philadelphia is nearly doubling the number of homeless outreach workers hitting the streets to bring people inside from the cold. Philadelphia's Office of Homeless Services typically has 20 outreach workers at its disposal. "People can die out here, and we take that very seriously," said David Holloman, director of external affairs.

How Craig LaBan reviewed Philly's restaurants in 2017
Philadelphia's best chefs turned back time in 2017, embracing some old favorites, with nods to tradition, and then making them relevant again. That's how Joey Baldino turned a century-old private Italian hideaway called the Palizzi Social Club into the hottest table in town - even with the added challenge of needing to find a member to host.

  • Richmond School reviewed by a parent

Overall. Richmond isn t a terrible school considering the surrounding demographics. You have teachers that could be anywhere but they re there. Trying for the sake of these kids. It really is up to parents to be proactive. I have seen public schools rise from the ashes thanks to parents who care! These parents come on here bashing the school. But are you making yourself. Are you at back to school nights and town meetings making sure you re heard? Sometimes school just don t have the resources! This is Philadelphia s public school system we are talking about. It is lacking and by no means perfect. But look at schools part of the same system, Meredith, Jackson, fantastic public schools! Why? Because of the parents! So stop blaming this school. They re doing what they can. All in all. My kids are smart, very confident, all As. My teachers communicate with me. Principle is accessible, security is good. Any concerns I ve voiced have been heard. So all in all my family has had a good experience with Richmond given the area and their lack of resources
