Suspect Charged Following Police-Involved Shooting

Police say 21-year-old Basil Harrison robbed someone at gunpoint at the Finest Deli in the 200 block of South 52nd Street. Police say Harrison stole money from the victim inside the deli.

Fifteen minutes after the robbery, police say they spotted the vehicle at 53rd and Hazel Streets. After checking the tags, police say they learned the vehicle was stolen in an early morning gunpoint robbery in the 5200 block of Church Road at 3:19 on Tuesday.

    At Hakim's Bookstore in West Philadelphia, there are signs of life for what is believed to be the oldest black-owned bookstore in the country. Only a couple of years ago, the store was near death's door. There is fresh, yellow paint on the walls, brand-new bookshelves, and a newly renovated office space at the back of the store.

Officer Shoots Robbery Suspect in Chest After Pursuit

The suspect allegedly robbed a deli at 52nd and Irving streets about 9 a.m., Philadelphia Police Capt. Sekou Kinnebrew said.

About 40 minutes later, an officer responding to the robbery call spotted the suspect's black Chevy SUV around 52nd and Hazel streets, Kinnebrew said. A short time later, a man got into the SUV and drove off.

Plainclothes officers pursued the SUV for about a mile until it collided with a car at 49th and Walnut streets.
